Alrighty, snagged this case this past week for cheap, but didn't really look at it close enough to realize that it's NOT actually for a Strat or Tele. Looks like one of the smaller body Fenders, like a Mustang, Jaguar, Cyclone, etc., however I don't know those particular instruments well enough to narrow it down any further than that.

I know it's long/wide enough for a Strat and I could probably gut and reline it (or just gut it and use it for pedals and such), however I'm gonna post it to Craigslist first and see if I can simply swap someone for a different case that I can use (with the move coming up, I'm still 6 cases short). I know there's some folks on here with sharp eyes, so hopefully someone can help me narrow it down for the listing....?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Maybe it was used for a Lead series or an original Tele-shaped Bullet?

My old Lead II was a '79 so it came in a tolex case, but that tolex case was the same one that was used with Mustangs, etc. Of course the Mustang, etc. models were all dropped in 1980, which was also the same year the tolex cases were dropped in favor of the molded cases (for about 2 years you could get either style case).

I don't think either of those would fit....this case is for a pretty narrow body, at least narrow around the upper bouts. I dug out an old copy of Fender Frontline and after looking at some body profiles, I think it's for the Mustang/Cyclone/Musicmaster bodies...they all appear to be the same shape (although I haven't completely ruled out Jaguar or Jagstang yet). That said, I don't have easy access to any of those models to actually try one and make sure.

Mainly I just want to see if I can find someone who can get some use out of it...I know proper fitting hardshells for these narrow body Fenders aren't as common as Strat cases. I figure I'll leave it on Craigslist for a while and if someone's interested, I'll just let them try their guitar in it...and if it doesn't sell, I'll just gut the damn thing and use it for pedals and cables and such (or reline it for a Strat).

I think John C is right. They didn't have those style cases for the Cyclones, they came with gig bags and the music master was gone by this time frame too. I have a friend who has a Lead II and this case is shaped just like his.

Thanks for the info. I had looked at the Lead II's briefly and thought they were basically stripped down Strats, but after digging a bit more, I think ya'll are right. I do have the case posted on Craigslist and the description has been adjusted accordingly (along with an invite for people to try their own instrument before they buy)...if it doesn't sell in a few weeks, then I'll just strip the lining out and either re-line it for a Strat or just use it for pedals and cables and such. Hell...if I traveled more, I might even use it as a suit case! LOL!

Anyways, again thanks for the info!

I found this on the net.

It says it's for a Lead II or Bullet
