i have found that the perfect floor unit
is the BOSS ME-50 or the LINE6 FLOOR POD PLUS
2 perfect systems for a strat. also try the Dunlop Fuzz Face

I've been using the Boss DS-1. It gives a good distorted sound without stealing too much of the guitar's tone

Boss OD-3, nice range of overdrive sounds
Boss BD-2, a bit more drive range as the OD-3
Boss Metal Zone MT-2 with EQ low, mid, high, gooooood

Check them out if possible on your amp if they sounds good over it.
Not every amps "like"pedals.

Cheers :D

I use a Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer...I like that one, I don't use it all that much, but it's a great pedal. Especially if you just want some overdrive for some blues SRV style

I always liked the DS-1, but you will need to leave the tone knob either OFF or really low. Things will get buzzy otherwise.

Fulltone Fulldrive is awesome for strats because it's a dark pedal.

If you need quite a bit of drive (for leads & solos) i'd recommend pairing a DS1 in front of a Fulldrive for a very great smooth tone. I do this a lot on my instrumental CD, for solos.

These 2 pedals are kings when paired together! enjoy,

i use the ds-2, cuz the ds-1 was a bit muddy, and the 2 could clear the stuff up without completely losing the highs.

try the ds-1, and the ds-2 if you like boss pedals. i have an ibanez ts9 (tube screamer of the digital age) that's pretty wicked too, but it doesn't get better than the ds-2.

I use a Boss OS-2, and I've been very happy with it.

I always used the Digitech Grunge pedal when I still had my Strat (which I still use the pedal today, but with a Jackson DKMG). Although the Grunge distortion is an extremely heavy distortion (so heavy it would of made Dimebag Darrell proud).

+1 on the Rat. Especially a vintage (LM308n chip) one.
It's the best because that's what I use.

Another good pedal that I recently bought is the Fulltone OCD pedal. It won't mudden up your tone and still keeps the guitars sound intact. It doesn't overfuzz it either. This is a much talked about great pedal out and is what Robin Trower is currently using to get his overdrive sound.

It's difficult to go wrong with a Boss pedal, but the Ibanez Tube Screamer, either the TS-9 or the TS-808, are considered the benchmarks in distortion pedals.

The original made in Japan DS-1 pedals are supposedly warmer sounding(not as bright or tinny sounding)
u will pay more for them (harder to find) than the newer ones (made in taiwan I think).
I don't own either versions but I have read alot about it.
