I've read that when you switch out a Jaguar/Jazzmaster stock bridge with a Tune-o-Matic bridge that vibrato is disabled. I have two questions about this: First, is this true, and second, is vibrato disabled on the J Mascis signature?

tune o matic bridge is a bridge that helps keep in tune, you just replace the existing one, the vibrato doesn't work if you lock the bridge down to the guitar, like kurt did with some of his mustangs, and he also used gotah tune o matic bridges, these can be purchased from stew mac.

That makes a lot more sence because when people mod Mustangs like Kurt's Mustangs vibrato is disabled.

J uses the whammy bar all the time. The vibrato is most certainly not disabled

ive got a mascis jazzmaster and the vibrato is lockable but only if you want to, aside from that you can wiggle it all ya want, my only gripe is that the tuneomatic wobbles a lot, im primarily a gibson player who strays over to fenders from time to time and the posts are too small for the holes on the bridge so it never seats correctly and even rocks forwards on the posts when the bars pushed down, they aint this loose on my epiphones let alone me gibson so should i contact fender or the shop i got it from? the volume and tone knobs were worse than me ancient mex strats btw
Still the j mascis is a great guitar though

You should proboably take the bridge off then wrap tape or some sort of filler around the post that holds it in place until it fits tightly.
