Hi

I have just bought my first Fender guitar (Kurt Cobain Jaguar) and first impressions are it sounds really good.
I do however feel that the string action is a little high compared to a Prs Tremonti se that I own.
Looking at the guitar bridge on the Fender it seems like the adjustable thumbscrews are all the way down leaving me thinking that no further adjustment can be made to lower the strings ?

Any help on setting the action on this particular guitar would be really welcome.

Thanks

The guitar needs a setup. Either have it done by a professional (= my recommendation), or learn to do it yourself.

A remark: All guitars can't be setup with the same action, not even if the scale and string gauge are the same - a Jag is a Jag, a PRS is a PRS. But: I have no idea if the action in your Jag could be lower than it is now - you didn't tell any measures... (and even with precise inch/mm specs net evaluation would be difficult; the action depends on other setup factors, too).

If it can be lower, you (most likely) need to shim the neck:
Quote:
The need to adjust the pitch (raising the butt end of the neck in the pocket, thereby pitching the neck back) of the neck occurs in situations where the string height is high and the action adjustment is as low as the adjustment will allow.
(Setup Guide)

Here's a link, in case you want to learn the setup yourself:

Hi

Thanks for the reply.
I think with the guitar being brand new it would be best to take it to a tech who will know how to get it setup correctly.
The guitar is now booked in for a full setup on Tuesday and I cant wait to see how it feels and plays when setup correctly.
Even with its current setup it sounds a really good guitar :D

A wise decision, IMHO. It's a lot easier to maintain a proper setup than to do one yourself, unless one has the experience.
Keep us posted on the outcome & play on, play LOUD.
