Just picked up a Jazzmaster. I love it but i want the action a tad lower. When i try to lower it, i start getting some buzz. I have heard that this is common, are there any fixes for this like to use a different type of bridge. I am not in an area where i can take it to get a set up done so i do it myself and have had much success. It takes patience.
Any thoughts?

What model Jazzmaster, what kind of bridge, what string gauge, where does it buzz, what are the setup specs now (nut slot height, relief, action)..?

Check neck relief , not with your eyes , use feeler gauge .
Check frets eight.

Or see a qualified luthier

whith the old jazzmasters and jaguars,it was usually the first 3 frets that wore out, so they filed the single frets rather than using a block and filing all the frets. if this is the case you should be able to see how much smaller the first 3 frets are. get a block and file all frets equal.. if its not an old guitar then tweek the truss rod. but don't play with it back and fourth. I agree always do your own set up if you are so inclined.

Thanks all, I decided to take the guitar back since it was brand new. Looking at a Tele to accent my strat and acoustic.
I appreciate all the info.

In all probability, the Tele will eventually need a setup, too...
