Hi sorry i probably sound really dumb here cos i really don't know too much about setting up guitars and stuff.
Basically the low E string my Squier Jaguar buzzes and feels really slack when i tune i down to D or anything lower. It's really horrible and the notes always choke. I also have issues with tuning as the further up the neck i go, the more out of tune each note becomes (even if the open D string is completely in tune). Do i just need to get my guitar set up? I use 11 gauge strings so i dont think thickness is an issue

Probably a good set-up is all you need, but finding a luthier that is familiar with Jazzmaster/Jaguar is not that easy.

For some good reading on setting up Jazzmaster/Jaguar, try this web site:

A google search will also turn up more sites.

do you think installing a new bridge eg a mustang bridge would help with it in any way?

Possibly. You can try a mustang bridge, there is also a Staytrem and the Majestic. The Staytrem and Magestic are expensive, the Magestic being the most expensive.

Many Jazzmaster/Jaguar players relate that you CAN get the original bridge set-up properly. It just takes patience and perseverance. I still use the original bridge on my Jazzmaster.

You might try offsetguitars.com, which is a website primarily concerning the Jazzmaster/Jaguar guitars. Lots of knowledgeable folks on there:

You have to register to be able to post.

IMHO you would spend your money better if you have the guitar setup by a good pro than if you invest in a new bridge.
The .011 set you use is usually OK for a short scale guitar like the 24" Jag, but tuning a whole step down changes the situation totally. Try a .012 set, or at least change the low strings to thicker.
Your tuning problems going up the neck may also depend on too slack strings (maintaining right finger pressure is harder), or the guitar setup may still be according to factory strings (.010 on the HH, .009 on other models).
One note: a thicker string set may be good for dropped tuning, but not to your taste in normal EADGBE.

Anyway, a pro will know if the nut needs work, and if the guitar needs a shim etc; etc.
So, do you wanna play the Jag or adjust it?

I respect your decision.
Two reminders: a) the guitar needs a setup with the Mustang bridge, too, and b) the string gauge <-> drop tuning factors I mentioned above remain the same with the new bridge.
