. . . And no, not the semi-hollowbody "Starcaster".

In the dim deep parts of my memory (the early '70s?), I recall vague rumours of a Stratocaster or Telecaster that had a stereo jack, and that it had some kind of split feed. It was either two different pickups going to the two channels (which argues for something like a Tele); or else split pickups (à la P-Bass) for the E-A-D strings on one channel, and the G-B-E' strings on the other channel. Presumably it would permit some novel effects.

Was this ever a production model? A prototype? A custom mod? A speculation in some magazine?
Or did I just hallucinate it?

Most of the google hits are for misspelled Stratocasters, or are in Russian, so I'm inclined to believe it was never a production model from Fender.

I hadn't heard of it either . . . but it's an interesting idea.

Rickenbacker has also made stereos (both guitars and basses) - and in vague memories a Ricky 360 could mix with a Starcaster shape.

BTW, I don't think EAD/left, GBe/right (or vice versa) would be a very good stereo split...

Gibson and Epiphone make them, too. B.B. King's "Lucille" comes immediately to mind as does the ES 345. Still don't remember any stereo Fender model.

I have a zoom 4040 foot controlled multi effects unit , it is normal mono in, but it has stereo outputs , mind you, you would have to program either stereo delay (including "Ping Pong" delay ), or stereo chorus to benefit from the stereo proper

I tried it and it works great , it splits the signal, duplicates it and sends the split to two different outputs, if you use 2 amps (as I did when I tried it out) the effect is really good .You only need to put a minute amount of effect on to access the stereo effect (just using it with , say EQ would just make the signal the same out of both amps) , but you would still be able to set the amp controls differently to each other, so quite a few tonal "colours" to be had either way

When it comes back from the shop one of my Teles will have piezos coming out of a separate jack for a different amp. So guess it will be stereo.

It's not quite the same, buy yes, I've done that with stereo pedals, also. In fact, I would like to have all of my modulation pedals be stereo models. I see Fulltone discontinued the stereo Mini Deja Vibe. That's a shame. It will only hike up the prices on eBay.

In the early 80's I saw a guy with a Strat modified to support stereo output. I didn't notice at first because he was using a TRS cable. It was my buddy who pointed out the cable split into two before going into his board. We didn't stay long at that bar else I would have tried to talk to him about it. I don't recall noticing anything particularly stereo sounding about his tone.

Until recently I owned a Line6 AX2-212 that had a stereo option on all of the time based F/X. Delay, Phase, Flange & Chorus. I don't recall if the Uni-Vibe had the option. The stereo effect was particularly effective at fattening up a tone. I sometimes use an A/B/Y switch to run two amps at a time, one set to clean and chimey and the other set to grind. It's not stereo but it's a very useful tone.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
