Sorry if this has been beaten up before, but Googled and forum-ed this to death and haven't found the answer. I'm working on a '63 Jazzmaster 'basket case' I came into and I'm stumped with a grounding issue. Everything I read about the vintage JMs indicates a 'tailpiece ground wire' that is supposed to be routed from the main cavity brass shield through a hole leading into the tailpiece cavity. From there, it was supposed to have been led up and folded over the body under the tailpiece- some say it was stapled, others say it was just folded over and pinched under the tailpiece. I can find no such hole, wire, or any other obvious way that my old JMs tailpiece, bridge, and strings were grounded. I'm reluctant to drill holes in an original '63 and I'm aware of the infamous hum/noise issues in the JM, so before I get her all wired up with all original pots and switches and string it up, I'd like to try to have all of the obvious grounding issues covered. I've combed the forums and found tons of info on shielding, but nothing specific to methods of tailpiece/string/bridge grounding that fits my case. Any ideas or guidance from the experts out there?

What your meter on ohms scale tell if you read between tailpiece and output jack ground ?

Thanks, Stratele52. The two cavity pans and pickup shields all show continuity, and the output jack is grounded to the PG shield, but there is no evidence of an original physical connection (that I can find) between the tailpiece or bridge to the output jack/PG shield or to the pans. So on the meter I'm reading no continuity between any of those.
