I love my strat, but I also love my metal music. Is there a way to customize a strat to play metal, or does Fender make a guitar that can compare, to oh say, the Gibson Explorer for metal sounds?

Strats are like the easiest guitars to mod.

Get a guitar and throw some Seymour Duncan Blackouts into it.

I love Blackouts,
Have them in both my Jackson DKMGT and my DK2M.

Go to warmoth and see their options, I am pretty sure YOU can fix the strat of your dreams and still not break the bank doing it. They´ll fix almost anything (at least in my experience). Look in there and do your own monster!!
