I want to know if the proper set up on a Jaguar is to have each individual saddle perfectly flat ,while raised or lowered relative to the next saddle so that the bridge and fretboard arch are matched while the saddle is itself perpendicular to the guitar or,should each saddle be angled so that it also reflects the bridge/fretboard angle ,that is to say that one of the two screws on each saddle be extended farther than the other so that the saddle itself also sits at an angle ,that angle being the angle of the bridge and fretboard.
It seems to me that each saddle should be flat otherwise down strokes on the G to high E would be more likely to cause the plucked string to dislodge as would up strokes on the low E to D strings. Since the string moving off the saddle is such a problem on this guitar I reasoned that a slight adjustment such as this might make a difference on this guitar while being of no moment on other guitars.
I have tried both ways and had problems with each set up and would like to know if anyone knows the answer to the question,if there is a right and wrong way to set the saddle angle ?

Saddles should follow neck radius , but it is a matter of taste too

IMHO&E(xperience), the "right" way is that
the individual saddles (Jag, JM, Tele six saddle versions, Strats etc.) are level and
the whole set follows the neck radius (but not always exactly: for instance lowE and/or A and/or highE may need to be a tad higher).

If the saddles aren't level, it may also cause buzzing if a saddle sorta stands on one leg (screw) only.

Stratele52, thanks for the prompt reply and while I see what you mean about style and while having the saddles angled with the bridge arc does look better then the step-like appearance of having each saddle flat my focus is on function and performance.
As most of us are of the opinion that the Jaguar bridge is problematic and although some have told me that with work they can get theirs to stay in tune and keep their strings in place I have not been successful on either count. If the "stair-step " alignment works better I will use it but,to date am still looking for the best approach. The appearance is barely different and mostly hidden and just not that important as compared with performance I will try anything and would like to know which setting is consider better so as to be able to eliminate one variable. If you have a Jaguar of have seen the attempts of another player please let me know what seemed to work ,or not ,for the other player(s) or if you just have knowledge of the issue which you care to add please do so.
If not ,then again ,I thank you for your interest and input and ask that anyone else who has knowledge or theory they care to add to the discussion please do so.
Thanks again to stratele52 and in advance to anyone else who joins in.

Jmattis is correct: the stair-step method is recommended for the reason you mention; so that strings are less likely to slip on the saddle than if the saddle is sloping.

Take a look at this setup guide for Jags & JMs: http://www.webrocker.de/jaguar/2007/05/ ... azzmaster/

The original saddles on these are well known for causing problems for some people. Others get on fine with them. I'd suggest carefully following this & fenders setup guides, including trying a heavier gauge of strings, and then if you still have problems look into an aftermarket bridge such as the Mastery or the Staytrem. I have the latter om my JM and it works perfectly, no slippage, easy to intonate etc etc.

I tried raising the saddles up so the screws don`t push through the top as the extra tension from the strings helps stop the the screws unwinding by themselfs!! I used locktite on the bridge posts for a while. But as they have a tendancy to keep unwinding themselfs i decided to buy a genuine fender mustang bridge for it instead. No problems since!!
