I've ran across a fender 3 neck steel guitar. It has 8 strings per neck and has a number on it 9346. It's in pretty rough shape but I'd sure like to know about when it was made and if there is much value.

It's possibly from the 1960s or the 1970s. The number might be the serial number.

Here is one with the serial number 410 from 1954 that Elderly had on sale at one time in the past (Isn't google wonderful :D) - lots of closeup photos for you to compare.

Does your look like this one ?

I only wish it looked half as good.....No I beleive it is a lot older ..The pickups (single) are under the metal plate and it appears the whole thing has been repainted black. Anyway thanks for the input......

Do you have a photo of the steel? That would help a lot as Fender had a 'Professional' steel in the late '40's/early '50's, and two types of Stringmasters (depends on the pickup covers and control plate configuration) afterward, all had 3 necks as an option. It sounds like you might have a early 'Professional' steel with the slanted pickup cover.

I have two '55 D-8 Stringmasters-the date (month/year) I found under one of the tuner pans on both guitars. The serial numbers aren't very helpful as I'd heard that they just pulled out a plate with the S/N on it out of a parts bin and at random when assembling the steel.
