I recently played a 1965 Mustang and really liked the small neck. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on the differences between the sound of the 65 reissue and the Kurt Cobain Mustang. I realize they have different pickups. These both have the width at 1.625 whereas the other Mustangs have a width of 1.65. I find the pawnshop mustang interesting but it has the larger neck. As of now I have not found a music store that carries any of these so I have not been able to play them.

I play a variety of music including country, blues, praise music, and old rock. Currently, I am very happy with my American Fender Stratocaster but would like something new.

I really like my MIJ Mustang Special, but I want to install a whammy, if possible. Will I need to cut the guitar to install ? what whammy will fit, if any ??

This may sound a bit harsh, but: if you need to ask those basic questions, do not attempt to assemble a tremolo yourself.

Buy yourself another Mustang with the same overall specs, but with a factory assembled tremolo. Considering the price range of second hand Mustangs, this is probably your cheapest option - and anyway, the best.

Or, if you absolutely have to convert that Mustang, pay a pro to do the job. Considering costs of parts and labor (with a possible partial refinish, and done by a good luthier), this can turn out costing more than option1...

Oh, the same answer applies to the same question in the lounge...
