I have encountered a slight problem with my Squier Vintage Modified Mustang. I bought it for a bargain price and an independent guitar store, I decided because of the price I would buy it because it felt great and the tone was great too and if an u thing was wrong with it, I'd fix it myself or just replace some parts.

Of course, like a lot of people do, I replaced the stock bridge because it had some string buzz, and I got a Tune O Matic bridge. I bought the TOM item 0167N from StewMac. It is is a classic style TOM bridge; I got it because I didn't want to have to drill a bigger hole for the modern version. It eliminated the string buzz but the action is now extremely high. And because this is a classic TOM bridge, the height is not adjustable. One solution to this is give the piece to my dad and take it to a mill and file it down to shorten it and lower the action. However I feel like there might be some other easier solutions.

Any advice or any other solutions from anyone else? Help is much appreciated.

So you got this one Gotoh 0167?
It is height adjustable (those discs in the posts raise/lower the bridge) - of course it may be that your bridge already is as low as it will go.

Instead of milling and filing, the traditional way is to shim the neck.

BTW, shimming and a proper setup most likely would have helped with the buzzing on the original bridge.
Has the guitar been set up at all, do you know how to?

Agree. I have an old SG and on those if you can't get the action low enough via bridge height and truss rod adjustments you need to have the entire neck removed and reset by a luthier. At least on a Fender with a removable neck you can easily shim it. There are some who choose to mill down the tune-o-matic bridge rather then reset the neck and that as well is a solution but is more of a band aid or "work around" rather then addressing the actual cause of the problem.

Hey, guys. Thanks for the tips. Much appreciated. I have my own experience in certain things on the subject of guitar maintenance. However, I have no experience on doing things like a neck shim. Mostly because I worry about damaging my instrument. So I will be taking it to a luthier/repairman for that. Hopefully things will turn out okay.

Thanks, guys!

See a qualified luthier , not a repairman

All luthiers are repairmen. But not all repairmen are luthiers.
