I have a duo-sonic dated february 8th 1965 A, and the serial number on the plate reads L79056. Everything is original except for one switch above the back pickup has been replaced. I also have a Mustang, dated august 8th 1965 B, with the serial number on the plated reading L95411. All original except repainted, sadly. If anyone knows what these guitars might be worth, any comments / links would be greatly appreciated.

It's really difficult to say what a guitar is worth without actually checking it out in person.

Are you planning on selling them or just curious?

If you are just curious I would just skip trying to find out a value on them and play them. But that is my personal opinion.

Im planning on selling either the mustang and the duo sonic, or the telecaster i have, depending on the values of them because i have a bill at the studio i have to pay for. But as i said, depending on the value im going to get rid of one or the other. I would much rather hang on to the tele, but then again, the duo sonic has a tone thats out of this world. Ha, its like trying to decide which finger to cut off, you know what i mean?

Look on eBay and see if any are for sale on there. That will give you an idea of what yours might sell for.

I'm not sure what the 'Stang would be worth, but I know the Duo-Sonic, depending on the condition it is in, is worth anywhere between $500 and $1500. My guitar teacher has one that was his uncle's, and it is a bit worn and scraped up, but still plays wonderful... anyway his was priced at about $500.

I hope that helps!

the mexican made strats are pretty easy to figure out the year.

M - Made in Mexico
N - Means made in the 1990s (replace the N with a Z for 2000+)
4 - Signifies the year, so 1994

Hey-I have a Duo Sonic question. I recently visited my brother in NC. In a falling down 18th Century house on his property I found a 1966-68 Duo Sonic II that my father had given him in high school. No telling how many years it had been sitting in the original case exposed to the humidity and temperature variations. My brother, in an altered state I am sure, attacked the body with a ban saw, cutting out a huge chunk. Well, this is going on isn't it? Long story short, my brother gave me the guitar and I would like to restore it to its former beauty if possible. I have repaired the body but have come across a problem with the pickguard. It has yellowed substantially and shrunk to the point where the screw holes don't line up well. I don't mind replacing the pickguard because the yellow will not look very good with the original color, Dakato Red, after I repaint.
Ok, finally my question. Do the reissue Mustangs have a pickguard that fits my Duo Sonic? Thanks Hughes
