Hi!
I recently picked up an American Special Jazzmaster as a project guitar to Hot Rod. I've been trying various aftermarket Tuneomatic-style bridges, and can NOT find one with the correct post spacing. It sure seemed to me like the post spacing was 2 29/32, but a new bridge with that spacing seems to be about a 64th of an inch too wide for the posts. Of course I'm using the posts that came with the new bridge with the required M5 threads. The posts drop right in...but the holes on the new bridge are just a hair wider than the posts!
Any suggestions???

I would guess the original Adjusto-Matic™ JM AmSpec bridge has the same measures as the AOM bridge Gretsch uses.
Post spacing for the Gretsch bridge would be 2.933" (the 2 29/32 you mentioned is ~2.906). That would explain the 'red aunt hair' difference you have.

If I'm correct here, your choices are
to fill and redrill the post holes (note: not a task for a beginner) or
get a new bridge from e.g. angela.com.

You might try contacting Ben at madisonsmusicstore.com via their email, which is listed on their website. Ben helped me out by providing some bridge parts I needed for my old Fender Coronado Antigua. Should you contact them, you might let them know they were a suggested as a source by someone he previously helped out. Good Luck...
