Anyone have an Affinity strat? These bozos on here say that it is junk and kindling, but i happen to think theyre a good guitar. Light and well made. Maybe not an american $1500 slab of wood, but decent enough to rock.
and a good platform to modify without spending a fortune.

My nephew had an Affinity. It played fine and decent sounds were possible.

I could have done a gig with it. If I had to.

It's a decent beginners guitar.

For beginner .

In the guitar world it is not good guitar . Most important is to have fun with and play music .

You're on the verge of trolling on those other topics, but being an optimist I'll give a serious answer to this.

On the positive side, an Affinity is cheap - almost everyone can afford to buy one, or parents (etc.) can spend that sum and buy it as a birthday present, Christmas gift and so on. They are easy to play especially for the young players - light strings, soft action, narrow neck and so on. (I remember my first guitars with mile high action and string gauges about the same thickness as my fingers)
And you get the "typical Stratocaster sounds" (whatever that means) , plus you get to play a guitar that comes from the Fender family, and looks like the ones your idols play.

On the negative side, the price class can mean problems - especially mechanical ones.
Some come out of the box with terrible setups - intonation is off, strings buzz, screws are loose etc.
Some necks warp - or even worse, are not stabile. The basswood used in bodies tend to pulverize around screw holes, nut grooves and fretwires wear fast. The electronics develope problems: the jack socket/pickup/ground wires break, pots become noisy and so on.

Most of those problems can be fixed, and of course a lot of young players learn the basics of luthierism this way.
The modding is probably about the same: can't afford a MIM/MIA Strat, but can afford to buy parts to an Affinity, one at a time.

You don't see top pros playing Affinities on stage. Part of it is because the sound, part because they must be able to trust the tools they use (part to the wow factor 8) ).
But as beginner guitars, or for a hobby player, or just for fun, Affinities are real nice.

I owned an Encore strat copy (Trev Wilkinson makes them now, and they really are way better than most low end strats)
Mine was one of the first runs, which had a correct shaped headstock before they went all rounded , the pickups were terrible so I swapped them for a set of EMG's which were superb , I modded it with a Floyd rose copy locking bridge and a friend of mine who owed me a favour , sprayed it black then metalflaked it with red, silver and blue specks (he did a fantastic job)
After setting it up it played like a dream , the electrics were surprisingly good, no noise from switches etc but I ended up selling it as it was murder on my shoulder (The beast was really heavy) and a hour playing it made me ache
The guy I sold it to played a MIM strat , which he then relegated to spare guitar and he used the Encore as he liked it that much
It cost me £45 for the original guitar , £90 for the EMG's and I got the locking trem and the spray job for favours
I sold it him (after him trying it out and mithering me to sell it to him) for £280
