I am trying to refinish a 1959/60 Fender Duo Sonic neck. I need some help with this. I know ReRanch has some instructions but from what I've read these guitars didn't have lacquered necks. Their site along with ehow won't help me. I've also heard that the Haynes manual is a good source but they're expensive and only deal with set-ups from what I understand. I need some tips on how to refin this neck properly so I can logo it. Follow the link below.

Vintage Duo-Sonic necks were lightly lacquered just as with other Fender instruments of the era. The logo was applied over the lacquer and was not sealed or oversprayed with any clear coat.

I've read somewhere that the Duo-Sonics didn't have lacquer on top of the body paint, but I'd be very surprised if the necks left the factory unlacquered...
So, go nitro. IMHO.

So I assume on a standard strat neck you'd have to completely finish it before applying a decal? i.e. wet-sand it to an outstanding shine.
