Hi, I'm a student in college and I'm taking an Intro to Marketing class. In my class I had to pick a product to do a pretend marketing plan for and I decided to do it on the American Vintage '65 Jaguar. For my project I have to get research and find out why customers bought the product I picked. So I was wondering if those of you who own a Jaguar would be willing to answer some questions that would help me with my project. Although I picked the American Vintage 65 Jaguar I wouldn't mind hearing from anyone who also has another series of Jaguar such as the Artist, Black Top, Classic Player, Special Edition, Vintage Modified, etc. Thank you.

1. How did you obtain your Fender Jaguar? (bought, gift, etc)
2. Why did you decide to get a Fender Jaguar over another type of guitar?
3. What series of Jaguar do you have and why did you get that series?
4. What is the color of your Jaguar and why did you choose that color?
5. How much was price a factor when you decided to get your Jaguar and why?
6. What kind of music do you play?
7. What kind of musician are you? (examples below)
---Bedroom Musician - mostly practices at home doesn't play in a band
---Casual Musician - plays for fun sometimes jams with friends
---Weekend Warrior - in a band that plays bars, and sometimes other odd gigs (fairs, festivals, etc.)
---Studio Musician - Offers studio services for other bands, or in a band that makes records and doesn't really play out
---Touring Musician - Tours the country playing different sized gigs, and makes and sells records.
---Other - explain
8. What age range are you in?
---under 18, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, or 60 and up

Thanks again to anyone who responds.

1. Bought
2. I cut my teeth on a Jaguar in the late 60's
3/4. 62 NOS Jaguar - pewter, Classic Player Jaguar - CAR, 50th Anniversary Jaguar - LPB
5. Not that much of an issue at the time.
6, In no particular order, Country, blues, rock, surf...
7. Casual to weekend
8. 60+

Restricting yourself to the '65 is a little strange as it has only been out for a year or so. The '62 reissue was in production for at least 12 years. But then, the '62 has not been on Fenders website for over a year so you may not have known about that.

A little advise for your paper, do some heavy research on the history of the Fender Jaguar (and Jazzmaster) as well as Fender itself. Including Leo Fender. I think you'll find several distinct genres that the Jags are featured in. Some of the reasons may surprise you. I won't go into great detail, it's your research paper and you will need to spend some time in the library and on Google. Just remember, not everything you read on the internet is accurate. It's usually heavily biased by the writer. Real books on the history of Fender are normally much more accurate as the authors professional reputation is at stake.

Me personally? I love the Jaguar with a 65 Twin Reverb. It's a marriage made in Heaven, or Fullerton, Ca. But it is NOT for all styles of music.

Good luck to you,
Art

A little history first. My first guitar was a brand new, 1963 Fender,?, it had a 3/4 size fret board, tan colored, single pick up. It meant everything to me. 13 years old and a electric guitar! Two years later (1965), I progressed so well, my Dad bought me a used 1962 Fender Jaguar, and a Fender 1965 Twin reverb amplifier! Wow what a guitar! What a amp! What a Dad!! With it having a 24" fret board the transition was easy. That guitar could almost play itself. What an awesome guitar! Unfortunately, time moved on and it ended up being somewhat of a closet classic. It went where ever I went, and unfortunately it went to South Korea with me in 1980, when being in the military, took me there. Like a fool I sold it for $125, with original case! Who knew that a some years later, that guitar would be worth so much!

1) Now 34 years later, I own another Fender Jaguar. It's the 2013/14 Fender Special Edition Jaguar Thinline. It's part of the Fender 50 year celebration line.

2) I have several guitars, mostly Fenders of course! I started buying guitars again in 1996. Stratocasters, Telecasters, and three acoustic's. One Gibson, and two EPI's. If I had bought a Fender Jaguar to begin with, I may not have ever even considered a Strat or Tele, who knows! It's like having my old baby back. I find myself asking, "Why did I wait this long! It sounds great, plays great, and looks great!

3) Thinline

4) Black. It looks so sexy with all that black and chrome! Although the alternate three color sunburst looks awesome too. Perhaps I may pick the other up one day as well.

5) Price was a big factor! Its MSRP $2199.99, regular selling price $1499.99 @ most retailers, was on a sale for $899.99. Took me 3 days to finally get the gumption to purchase it. Glad I did, and will never look back.

6) Rock, country, and blues.

7) Currently a bedroom musician.

8) Will be 64 next month.

Hope this helps you.

I started. Playing guitar when I was 11. When I was 13 we were on holiday, I saw this beautiful guitar in the shop window. It was an original Fender Jaguar in a sunburst and it sounded and played like a dream. I couldn't afford it so as time went on I still wanted one. I met my partner in 1992 and and she bought me a MIJ sunburst jag, I decided to keep both of them!!! We are still going strong.
1) Present.
2) I always wanted one.
3) There was only two to chose from at the time.
4) Sunburst, I was sceptical about what woods were under the paint!!
5) Price was not a factor at the time.
6) Rock and Blues.
7) I was a gigging musician at the time.
8) 40-49

I started playing guitar when I was 12. Like most kids from my generation, I got into the Jaguar through Kurt Cobain using one in Nirvana. I however, kind of fanned off from that into other subgenres of Rock/Metal and tried out a 1963 Fender Jaguar, bone stock, when I was 18, and found that is THE Guitar I wanted bone-stock off-the-rack, especially after running through some Metallica and the shop tech was impressed that a "Surf Guitar" with a pair of 7.4K Single coils could chug like that humbuckered guitar behind me on the wall.

Ever since I've played quite a few Jaguars in the vintage format from Squier VMs to full blown vintage pieces and everyone of them have impressed me and every one has been a winner. I've stuck with my CIJ though with the cool rails because it has that same tonal benchmark set by the 63' years ago despite the previous owner's modifications to the pickups, and I can't justify picking up another one just yet because that Jaguar, along with it's modified Jag-Stang half-sister, have been so reliable I can fall back on either at a moment's notice and both just plain SLAY tonally.

1. How did you obtain your Fender Jaguar? - I bought mine in December of 2005 from Guitar Hangar used with the intent of returning it to stock (mine was modified with an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic and a pair of SD Cool Rails, and 500K pots). The fact that it sounded more than close enough to a regular Jaguar tone-wise lead me to not swap out anything more than the bridge, I just put Jaguar pickup covers with the tops cut off and claws on them.

2. Why did you decide to get a Fender Jaguar over another type of guitar? Because I love how they look, sound, and feel. I've played probably 30 different Jaguars in different series, never once have I met one I did not like enough to buy had I had the $$ for it.

3. What series of Jaguar do you have and why did you get that series? Crafted in Japan from circa 1997, I got it because it was in the right price range for me at the time and got it as a project.

4. What is the color of your Jaguar and why did you choose that color? - Sunburst, I did not choose it, that's all I could really find, and the Foto Flame one I wanted sold. I like sunburst a lot though because it "wears well", all those dents, dings, and scratches from heaving gigging since 2005 has really given my Jag some character.

5. How much was price a factor when you decided to get your Jaguar and why? A huge factor, I could not afford a the AVRI (the only thing new available at the time). I always wondered why it took so long for something like the Squier VM series to come out.

6. What kind of music do you play? - Hard Rock, Metal, and New Wave with some Experimental Rock and Psychadelia thrown in. The Jaguar does ALL of those genres well.

7. What kind of musician are you? (examples below) - Other, I'm semi professional, I do make money playing gigs and festivals, I do record in the studio, and have been on the radio, but I do have a regular day job as being a musician is not that lucrative to making an honest living these days from what I understand.

8. What age range are you in? - 30-39

I'm still waiting to get my first Jaguar, as a lefty I thought Fender may have turned a corner with the release of the Cobain sigs.

Genuine question, do you guys think there'll ever be a point where Fender decide to roll out lefty standard Jaguars/mustangs for lefties?

I'm going to keep my eye on NAMM this month, I won't get my hopes up but you never know!
