I picked up this beauty last year. It's a Japanese 1962 Reissue Jazzmaster from 1994, 20 years old this year.

I want to get a period correct Fender case for it. Did these originally come with Tweed or Tolex or something else?

Correct case for a '62 would be the brown Nubtex (often erroneously referred to as Tolex). This covering matched what Fender was using on its brownface combo amps of the era.

Nice Jazzmaster!

I bought one of these new in CAR 20 odd years ago and they actually came with a Black Tolex case, black leather ends with white stitching and a Black interior. The case did have a black metal Fender label by the handle, but did not have the metal Fender Amp logo on the outside. It was a very good quality case. I used my Jazzmaster for slide, it actually had a great tone for that!

I sold it to my nephew and he still has it and it is still in great shape and he has gigged with it for many years (both the guitar and case)

Nice guitar btw...love that three color sunburst.

+ Ditto. Nice Jazzmaster !!

Here is a photo of my 1962 vintage Jazzmaster case. It will be 52 years old this year.

Note: The black strap by where the guitar neck goes in the case is my addition. :D

Wow! Very nice! It looks like you can still get new cases that look like this and i think this is the one I'd like to get.

As you can see, it doesn't come cheap. :(

Just be certain that the case you buy bears the oval "G&G" medallion on the lid to the interior accessory compartment. Fender also markets an imported "pro series" case that appears the same but is in fact very cheaply made.

That doesn't appear to differ from the new G&G cases, which also seem very cheaply made, with badly fitted locks and straps, and badly sown seams. Well, at least that's the case (no pun intended) for the G&G case that came with my Select. It's by far the worst quality case I've ever had.

The Pro Series cases have a cheap plastic handle, other than that the fit and finish seem to me (I have 3 of them) to be as good, if not better, than the G&G's (have over 10). They don't leave the house, so can't vouch for durability.
