Hi, all. I do apologize if this is covered elsewhere; I swear I've Googled this to death and come up with nothing.

I recently picked up a 50th Anniversary Jag (Burgundy Mist, fwiw), which came with a great hard case. Thing is, I'd also like a gig bag. I had to bring it to the shop for the bridge mod/setup and really didn't want to lug the hardshell out there.

I have a Fender gig bag from probably 2005 that's a standard Strat/Tele bag, but will technically fit the Jag, but the unique shape of the guitar makes for bulges right on the seam, which makes zipping/unzipping a bit tough. Plus, there's a tendency (unless you shove it down a bit) for the very tip of the headstock to poke through the top. At least, that's how the shop returned it to me when I picked it up the other night.

Is there a specific-- reasonably priced-- gig bag out there that works best with the Jag/Jazz shape? I know there's the Mono cases or the Protection Racket bags out there, but I'm not really interested in spending $120-275 on a gig bag. I have the hardshell for that. I want something easy to transport short distances with (which, admittedly, is probably rare at best), should the need arise.

Would a Fender Deluxe bag work? The Urban and/or Metro series? Deluxe Tweed? I saw a bag that looked a little wider in another Jag thread on here, but I can't find it anywhere (it had the large FENDER logo along the length of the neck outside the bag).

Thanks!
greg

If all else fails try a bag made for an acoustic.

Wouldn't it rattle around in there? If it's not too wide, it's probably too deep, right? I suppose you could stuff something in there, maybe get a foam pad.

I recently purchased a Pawn Shop Jaguarillo and it came with a Deluxe Gig Bag.
Pretty much a perfect fit. However, the Deluxe Gig Bag advertised on the Fender Accessory page, though similar in configuration, doesn't appear to be the same bag my Jaguarillo came in. Perhaps a call to Fender Customer Service could verify the fit of the advertised Deluxe bag, or they could possibly hook you up with the bag that the Jaguarillos ship in.
Cheers!

Thanks for the tip. I did send a message off to consumer relations, as it's really the only email address I could find. I'm not in a rush, so no need to call.

Good call on the bags that come with the guitars being different than the ones sold through Fender (or another gear site).

I'll post their reply here for anyone else in a similar boat as I am/future Googlers.

As promised/threatened (albeit delayed), here's the response I got back from Michael Roberts at Fender Consumer Relations...

Quote:
The current bag options that we offer with the traditional, urban and metro have all been tested with these body styles so you should have no issue there.

So there you have it-- seems like any of the newer gig bags can handle it. I'm guessing the one I had before was just for Strats/Teles and not the wider-'hipped' Jaguars.

You may also find the Case Finder at Sweetwater helpful. Just select Fender and Jaguar.
http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/cases/finder/guitars_electric

Also the Classic Player comes with the Deluxe Gig Bag which will fit all Jaguars with the exception of the Jaguar Bass and possibly the Jaguar Baritone.

Personally, I would not put a 50th Anniversay Jag into a gig bag. You have a $1700-$1800 guitar and it makes sense to transport it in the hard shell case.
