I have an orange MIM Toronado (the one with the big pickguard). The thing is an absolute beast. It roars.

Such an underrated guitar.

I own the same orange one too, these ones are early version of toronado,
with perloid pickguard, orange color is kind of rare, wanted and valued.
Also you can watch it in "cant stop" video Red hot chilli peppers

You can also see the guitar in a video my band just released! (shameless self promotion!)

I've always thought Orange, for the Toronado, was such a magical combination. I also really like the yellow (I have a yellow Cyclone). I never really liked the small pickguard or Korean versions of the Toronado. Fender got it right the first time around. A shame guitarists rejected them for being a new model.

Korean guitars didnt come with any pickguard (Toronado GT HH)
The small pickguard was the Mexican ones around (2004 - 2007),
for me they have the best sustain because the gibson style bridge.

but i agree with you the fist version with big pickguard looks better
and vintage (jazzmaster style)

thanks for writting

The American Special and Highway 1 Tornados also sported that shorty guard!

I'd love to get my hands on one, but they're not for sale all that often.
There's one on Reverb.com right now, but I don't like the "Frets are good. Neck is medium." description.

I first learned about the Fender Toronado guitars on this Forum and I knew that I had to have one, so I started checking eBay and one day this guitar came up for sale.

Image

I put a max bid of $400 on it and watched as the auction ran its course, never reaching my max bid... In the end, I was the high bidder and a week later I received the guitar from the seller.

I really like the GT Korean version of this guitar, especially since it sports genuine Seymour-Duncan humbuckers, whereas the US and MIM version were sold with Fender Atomics.

Image

If I recall correctly, the neck pickup is a reverse-wound S-D Vintage 59 and the bridge pickup is a S-D Pearly Gates. I love the sound of this guitar and I'll admit that I am a fan of humbuckers and wanted a Fender with humbuckers.

The guitar is in excellent condition and plays like a dream. I got lucky as I only paid about $385 for the guitar, including shipping.

Yes you should get one,

I bought a GT HH blue one (made in Korea) last december, and my first impresion was that has big frets (jumbo i guess) and that makes that action get a little more high.

I love the apareance of this guitar (blue with white stripes).

the body seems to be a little small (maybe 1 cm)... i noticed it when i tried to put it in the hard case of my orange Toronado, and i could see that dimensions was a little different (Length), (please tell me if i am wrong).

I dont like to modify Toronados, but replace the tuners for standard fender stratocaster's tuners.

Maybe Korea made was not the best in parts, but they are lovely.
Seymour Duncan sounds really strong.

Very collectionable guitar

PD: Dont et go a that Toronado GT HH blue away, that color are more wanted
and there's not a lot of that guitars available out there.

Regards !

Can anyone in this forum shed some light on this guitar for me?
Is it one of the rare models based on the production year?
Not sure how to post pictures here. If someone can help me, I will post pictures of it.
Thanks

Based on the serial no., I've been able to pretty much determine this guitar was made in the 2004-2005 range.
At the end of 1999, the serial numbers transitioned from an "MN" prefix to an "MZ" prefix with the "M" designating Mexico and the "Z" designating the 2000s.
SERIAL NUMBERS PRODUCTION DATES
MZ0 + 5 or 6 digits 2000-2001
MZ1 + 5 or 6 digits 2001-2002
MZ2 + 5 or 6 digits 2002-2003

Hi Jalentz9

If your toronado is in black color for sure should be the fist toronado version with the big pickguard in tortoise color. (1998-2002)

Later versions never came in black. The second version has a color called "metallic navy blue " that is a very dark blue, most people think is black, but NO, is navy blue. (2004-2006 aprox)

Regards!

It's definately black, the entire guitar, including pick guard and according to the serial number 2004 -2005 production.http://images.craigslist.org/00u0u_5083 ... 50x50c.jpg
