Hi

I purchased this guitar when I was 15, a Fender Mustang; the age of rock dreaming., competition red I think they called it. I just found out that it was made in 1968 at the Fullerton plant. The serial number is 227257.

Can any one provide me with more info on this, please?

Chuck

I have a 1966 pre- scalloped dakota red, they are 24in scale, considered student model. Some were actually 22 inch scale but most 24. The competition red you may be referring to is possibly a stripe on the body somewhere, there were some of those around, called competition stripes.

Does it have stripes? If so, it's Competition Red. If not, then it's just Red.

What would you like to know?

The competition models are considered somewhat more collectable. There is a fellow in my area asking $1700 for his 1970 Competition Green Mustang. Running a search on ebay under Completed Listings might give you a better idea of what you can get for the guitar.

I would say keep it since you owned and cared for it this long. If your girl is your daughter give it to her if she's old enough to care for it. If your going to give it to your girlfriend, buy her another guitar. Girlfriends come and go except the one you marry.

What do you mean "except"? :?

Anyhow, it's not a present for a daughter/granddaughter either, unless she's into old guitars. Otherwise she will just sell it (for less than it's worth) as soon as you die.
Sell it to someone who will actually use it and take care of it. A nice piece of history like that deserves an owner that appreciates it. Then buy your "girl", no matter who/what that is, a present she will appreciate.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll take your advice into consideration...
