I have a '61 Musicmaster that I just put together. I even found a vintage case for it that is in good condition. I am pretty happy with how it turned out. I used a cap modeled from a 1960 Telecaster circuit and 1 Meg pots. I wanted that darker tone. I am going to tweak it more and might replace the .05 capacitor that's in there now. I am unsure of the date of the pots that I used. I know they are vintage and believe they were made by Centralab. The code reads as follows :p1341-1304-6208. Can anyone tell me the date of these pots?

Centralab's assigned EIA code was 134 so I'd guess your pots date to the 8th week of 1962.

Thanks man. I found out a little trick. If you don't have original Fender CTS pots which are extremely overpriced on Evilbay then just grab some from an old Switchcraft mixer. You are keeping things vintage and well within budget. I'm tired of Ebay bandits so I find clever ways of doing things. I had a machine shop that usually works on cars make pickguard shields for me. Fender only sells them for Strats.

With the anodized aluminum pickguard on your Musicmaster, a pickguard shield is unnecessary.

That pickguard is actually plastic. It's a reproduction. I think I got it from an eBay store... Madison's Music or something. The templates my machinist used for the CNC machine were about 0.03" thick. I painted one gold but didn't like the way it came out so I stuck with the repro. Madison's is cool but the reproduction caps they sell are kinda tacky because the printer they use for the label is not very good. I've had less than stellar findings from many of those companies... Angela's, Mojotone ... It's hard to find good help these days. Everyone would rather rob you than help you with your project. There's easier ways to steal than start a crappy business.

I've dealt with Ben at Madison Guitars and Steve at Angela Instruments for many years now and have always had very positive experiences with both. If you need NOS then buy NOS -- neither have ever misrepresented anything they've ever sold to me.

OTOH, I've had issue with many of Mojotone's so-called "vintage spec" products which more often than not, didn't match what Fender used as OEM back in the Fullerton days. I seldom buy from them anymore.

I'm talking about the quality of product. Even though this is off topic to this thread I feel things like this need to be addressed. Angela's was a return because they don't accept them. Most of the time it is because something lackluster, or below scale has been sent to the buyer. I just opened of package from Guitar Centro I believe those guys are in England. The quality of the headstock decals they sent me was horrendous! You think the founding fathers made a big deal about taxes? I'm about the fly to Heathrow tomorrow! Usually when someone has a qualm they find a better way to do it. I'm not about to start a business selling parts but if I did there would be a lot of people out of work... and rightly so!
