Hello, I just received a fender jaguar special hh Olympic white for xmas. I noticed right of the box it had some buzz issues but I thought it was just cause it wasen't set up. I put brand new .10's on it and all the strings sound great except the 4th string D it is buzzing without any fretting but when I fret it goes away. I have tried moving the action up and down and it still is buzzing. The neck contour looks perfect but not measured. I have never seen this issue before on any guitar I have ever owned. Any help is appreciated.

Could be the nut is incorrectly slotted for your D string......

Could be truss rod buzz. The frequency of the open D might be a frequency as the truss rod resonates at.

What is orginal strings ? .09 ?

If yes , guitar may need a set up , you have to follow step by step .

Yes it could be the truss rod buzz .

Did you remove all old stings before put new one OR one string at time. ?

Thank you all for your reply's The original strings were 10's. I removed all the strings and then put the new one's on. The intonation was not far off but I didn't want to get into serious set up mode until I solved this issue.

If it were the nut how could I tell? That was one of the first things I checked and it seems normal but I am not an expert.

Truss buzz never heard that before  . How would I solve this issue? different gauge of strings.?

I've been scrolling the internet for a solution and most people suggest to put .11's on a jaguar. I play in drop c#

All the strings removed= neck may come back bow . Never do that . One string at time. Backbow = buzz.

If neck is back bow it could take few hours or days to be straight as it was before and buzz to desapear. Wait and keep guitar in tune and wait. ......

You have to learn how to take reading on proper neck bow . Now you work like a blindman.

Nut ; Just look if string seat properly , If original strings was same strings gauge sure it is not the nut .

The only thing change with new strings ( if you tell us all you do ) is the neck .

Don't play with saddles, if action was good before. Saddles don't move by itself. Action still same all the time.

A complete set is needed if you do that . Better to learn how or know a qualified luthier .

You know what is a complete set up ?

Are you sure it's not the bridge buzzing? If you are new to these guitars, it is very easy to improperly align the bridge after you have changed strings. There are two "wells" in which the bridge posts pivot. If the posts are not centered in these wells, then the posts could be vibrating against the side of the wells.

Once again ty all for your sound advice. I have been checking the neck and have not seen any change since I opened it but it has not even been 24hrs. Will keep checking.

A complete set up to me is Neck,Action and intonation.

Gadabout it does sound like it is coming from the bridge like I said before i am not getting any buzz on the neck or when it's fretted and it's just the 4th string. How would fix this issue with bridge?

Loosen all the strings, then check the bridge to see that it's centered and not touching the sides. Then slowly tighten up the strings while holding the bridge in position.

UPDATE!!!!!!

I tried resetting the bridge saddle and it did not work. I called the retailer that I purchased the guitar from and they walked me through some troubleshooting. Long story short the problem was in the tuning machine. I had overlapped the string when I restring the guitar  . I unwound the string and rewound it the guitar sounds great and plays great. It still weird I've been playing for 15yrs and have overlapped strings before and never had any issue.

The moral of the story is I'm an idiot but a lesson learned.

Thank you all for your reply's. Fender Forever!
