The Coronado looks sooooo sixties to me.

It reminds me of the weird Japanese guitars before they started copying the classic American guitars.

Makes sense - the Coronados were weird 60s models from that same era. They really tried some odd stuff with them - the first Antigua finish was on them, and they had the "wildwood" models where they injected dyes into the live trees before they harvested the wood.

The Coronado is a model I'm not super familiar with - I thought I read somewhere that they contacted Hagstrom to build the bodies for them but I could be wrong about that - it could be that they just bought the tremolo units from Hagstrom for these.

I love the new Coronados. But my short fingers need a 24"scale ...... drat! Hopefully they will be around long enough that fender will make a short scale ........ maybe in in the Japanese guitar market they'll build a few?

The Antigua was to cover burn marks on the wood when the binding process went wrong. The coronado was designed by CBS to compete with the Gibson ES series. The pickups were similar to the Gretsch "Filter-trons" Ste Starcaster was the freaky model. They're bringing that back as well.

The Coronado reissues lack off a 12-string version and a wildwood finish option.

I bet these additions will come later, possibly in the form of a special edition.

So I'm in the process of raising funds for a Coronado (or a new Lonestar, or both  )... I unloaded my lap steel today and am pondering the sale of my Cort Source (ES-335 copy). My question is this... how big is the Coronado, it looks really big... will a std ES sized case fit it? I'm guessing there's no case included with the Coronado and Starcasters... maybe Fender will offer one up at some point. Anyone know if the Coronado comes with a gig bag at least?

Doesn't look like it. But once they are available, go to sweetwater.com and use their "casefinder" to find the correct case hard, soft, or otherwise.

I think musicians friend also has one, but it doesn't have as many guitar models as Sweetwater.

I bought the two Coronado's, in pic I posted a few months ago, new in 67. Sold the XII as hadn't played it in over 30 years. Still have the Antigua..with the original DeArmond pickups (http://musicpickups.com/Fender.html). Back then, they came with hard cases made by Victoria luggage..viewtopic.php?p=955517#p955517

I had a Coronado Antiqua in the mid 70's. Was a trade in to a motorcycle shop in west texas. think I got a cry baby, mic stand and bunch of other stuff with it for about $200.
played it in bands for about 4 years. rock and whatever. been trying to get it back ever since I sold it in late 70"s. hope they come out with another one. Neck was best I ever played. should have got rid of ex wife and kept the Antiqua. but there ya have it. soon as I get to Play a new one and it is even close I am buying it.

I tried a Coronado the other day.
While there were some good things about it--like the feel of the neck, overall it was awkward to play--part of that was the placement of the controls.
Why is the bridge volume control in such an awkward place?
It's right by the pickguard and not easy to see or use.
Check out the ES-335 and others like that--the controls are in much more natural place.
And the toggle switch was awkward as well.

It had a bit of a cheap feel, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if it isn't cheap quality.

But the main thing was the control placement--it threw me off.
They didn't have a Starcaster--but I'm keeping an eye out for those.

Although I'm putting aside money for a fretless J-Bass.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to be a good design.
