Is this too good to be true? I've wanted a starcaster ever since I saw one in the back of a Guitar Player magazine years ago. I really hope its affordable!!

I saw something about this (and other releases... like the Coronado and Coronado Bass) on the shortscale forum sitehttp://www.shortscale.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=53610 ... I know, treasonous. Anyhow, it looks like they're in the works. We'll see how they're received this time around and at what price point/model line they'll be released. I think that will be a big factor in how well they do.

I'm not surprised - in the past 7 months Fano has introduced a model with a Starcaster-style body, and it looks like Warmoth also has a Starcaster-style body available. It's a good time for Fender to get back into the game.

From the screen grabs I've seen from the video it looks like it's going to have a tune-o-matic bridge instead of a string-through and it's missing the master volume control. I suspect this will be an import of some kind to keep the costs down, but you never know - FMIC has some capacity over at the old Hamer factory in CT. Those former Hamer guys are building the USA Guilds, so they could be doing a USA Starcaster there as well.

They're going to release also a bass version of the instrument.

CBS did indeed a Starcaster Bass in 1976/77, but only as a prototype.

Few of these prototypes were sold with 5 strings.

What's next? Wildwood Coronados? LTDs/Montegos? Broncos? Customs/Mavericks?

Wait and see!

There's no plan to release an American-made Starcaster as far as I know. Fender will likely start production of Starcasters in China with the intention to launch a Squier version later.

Ditto for the Coronados too.

I agree; these will probably be out of China or possibly Korea. I mentioned the Hamer factory yesterday but now that I think on it I don't believe they ever did bolt neck Hamers there in CT; they were discontinued when Kaman moved Hamer out of Illinois. If any modern USA Starcasters are built they would likely be out of Fender's Custom Shop - and they would probably be Master Built one-offs, not as any kind of production.

Now if Fender ever decides to reissue the Lead series I would be glad to let them evaluate my old one (like the evaluated vintage Strats, Teles, etc. for the new American Vintage series) but I'm not holding my breath on that.

I'd like one of these, but if they're made in China I'll pass on them. :(

The Leads would certainly form a nice addition to the Pawnshop series, not to mention their Squier VM counterparts!

Personally I'd opt for a Pawnshop Lead IV with two EMG humbuckers, backrouted controls (no pickguard) and a Floyd Rose bridge.

Crafted by Stephen Stern, I guess... :)

I'm certain that you'll be ordering two (lest one be stolen from your home).

At least two, natural and sunburst. I wonder if Warmoth will copy the headstock and make a rosewood version?

The only things I dislike for the Modern Player Coronado is the absence of a Wildwood finish option and the lack of a 12-string version with the Electric XII's "Hockey Paddle" headstock.

If the Starcaster were made in Mexico I'd be all over it. $800. for a guitar made in China has me looking for somthing else. The GAS is gone. :| :(

I signed it and I'm glad fender heard us !

But as many other people who signed it, I was more hoping for an American Vintage reissue with all the vintage specs... I'm sure that all those modifications were made to improve as well costs economies and to adapt to modern playing but, somewhere, I'm still hopping for an USA made reissue... Strange that this MP reissue isn't available in the famous sunburst that might have represented maybe 75% of the sales (we all know why...). Maybe they're keeping it for some other serie reissue... (not squier please!)

Since this reissue proves fender is reading players requests they might have read that there are as many joyfull people as desapointed ones already looking to upgrade those MIC guitars with lollars or curtis novak pickups, adding trem or bigsbies... regretting they're not string through body or the master volume control... and come on, what's the heck with the neck placed further inside the body ?... (ok it will be better for the necks and easier in a mass production scale but come on... what about the design ?)

Anyway, many people is still really excited by this faire price guitar, me the first and I can't wait to try it !

So thank you fender for listening to the fans, please keep doin'it ;)
