I think I'm going for a standard strat :D It has so many possibilities and you can get those for an affordable price :)

I am currently using one of my Strats for jazz with 9's on it rolling the tone down to 2-3. I play almost exclusively on a solid state amp, a 25R at home or for fuller sound, a 212R. If you crank the amp to about 7 or 8, and roll the guitar volume knob down, you can get some real jazzy thumps. I do prefer a little reverb, around 2-3, but that becomes preference. Also, since I am using only 9's for strings, I will use a Fender Heavy pick for subtle pick attack sound.

I am seriously considering the inexpensive Modern Player Jaguar or Blacktop Jaguar w/p90's because they are a shorter scale, easier on my hand when my arthritis flares up, no Gibson for me since I am a loyal Fender guy...lol...and I will be stringing it up with flatwounds, probably 11's. I absolutely love flatwound 11's with p90's and a short scale...I hardly ever touch a hollowbody anymore.

It's a common misconception that a big hollowbody will automatically give you a jazz tone, but it's really more about guitar and amp settings and your touch with the pick. You could get a decent jazz tone out most any guitar if you take the time to experiment with the settings and train your fingers and your ears to produce the tone. Here's some hack player who manages to get a good jazz sound out of a Fender Jaguar.

That sounds really nice :p and it has indeed much to do with practice. I'm practicing every day with different scales and arpeggios. One of my biggest problems is my lack of technique so I'm practicing a lot on technique too. I am really slow with my left hand and have difficulties with fast picking and skipping strings.
