What is the point of the d g string tree? Particularly on a modern player jaguar? Tuning stability has gone way up with its removal. But what should I put in its place? I have a screw hole in the middle of the headstock now....

You can't "un-drill" a hole. And attempting to fill it would likely make a bigger booger than simply leaving it be.

Hi,it has to do with the angle of the headstock. In laymens terms, the string tree keeps your strings from popping out of the nut. Try big bends nut sauce,or some chapstick on a toothpick if the strings are binding.
