Does anyone know anything about the Modern Player Marauder? I am interested in the Triplebucker pup. Not a bad price, I think they are made in Asia, what about the quality?

They are made in China and overall the fit and finish is quite good, but the response to the guitar has been mixed. There's one still hanging at a local Mom & Pop music shop that's been there the better part of a year now and still no takers. Weird. And no effort to move the guitar by reducing the price, though it is now sporting a real nice 1" long ding right on the front of the body. :?

I don't think I could let anyone see me playing a guitar with a "triplebucker". It is something spinal tap would own.

Other than that I know you can get one in lake placid blue. Which is lovely.

Thanks for the comments, I understand what you mean about the Spinal Tap-ish "triplebucker", if anyone teased me about it I would just add the knobs that go to 11! I guess one of my major concerns is that it’s a fairly new product and I am wondering how they hold up. They don’t cost that much, but I don’t want frets popping up right after the warranty expires.

I own a black marauder. the neck is very thin and super fast. The guitar itself is a bit on the heavy side but overall the fit and finish is very good. Now the triplebucker. when engaged in the normal humbucker position (two coils) it is very cutting and modern gain accommodating, when you switch it up to triplebucker (all three coils) it becomers very noisy! Hum is very present. Dont get me wrong, it does have a nice unique full spectrum sound but it does not buck the hum. I thought maybe it was my particular guitar but when I tried out another at GC it had the same hum. Would I buy another, sure! Like I said before very nice fit and finish for what you pay for (nicer than some of the MIM I have owned) I would just replace the triplebucker with something more boutique. I hope this helps a bit.

I don't have the marauder but I do have a modern player jag. It is pretty nice. The nut needed a bit of work and some parts of the fretboard (edges towards the body) are a bit, um, rough, but aside from that it a very nice guitar. Love the noises it makes and the fretboard feels great. I'd buy another. (Like, maybe, the Modern Player 2.0 HSH Strat.)

I've played Marauder in a shop and was pretty impressed with the sound and quality. However, the tuners were pretty bad. I wrote a review for the guitar at www.epinions.com, you may check it out -

In short, a very nice guitar, the pickups are fine and I haven't heard too much noise. The triplebucker is a funny thing. Of course, you cannot replace or upgrade it since there's still only this version.

That 3-bucker is interesting.

I don't believe that you can have 3 coils and hum-bucking too.

Read your review and it was spot on except for the part where you say the guitar goes out of tune a lot. Yes, when I first got the guitar it did go out of tune often but if you do this easy step when changing the strings the problem will be gone. Take a sharpened #2 pencil place it in the nut where each string sits, spin the pencil until you see a small layer of lead at the bottom. That's all you have to do, now your strings won't get stuck in the nut. I've had my Modern Player Marauder for over a year and a half and have no problems doing dive bombs with the tremolo without ever going out of tune. It's now as good as my Floyd Rose of which I'm going to be selling very soon.
