I still have the neck from my first electric guitar from Jr. High days, a Dakota red '65 Mustang. Got into modding things even back then and somewhere along the way lost the body (dang!!!!). Does anyone have any idea as to whether an original '65 neck will fit accurately onto the new '65 MIJ RI body? I am watching Ebay and Craigslist for an old body, too....but most are VERY beat up and of sometimes questionable provenance. Other suggestions welcome.

Thanks for any experiences to share.

The necks should interchange assuming identical scale lengths but some minor "massaging" may be necessary for an optimum fit. Be advised, your '65 Mustang's body was poplar -- many of the MIJ/CIJ re-issues are fabricated of basswood.

Thanks. I figured the '65 RI should be a close match if they are actually following the original specs. I've just run into situations before where a newer MIJ/MIM/MIC/MI? version of a particular guitar differs from an older and/or USA version (pick-guards dimensions, metric measurements for things vs. English, etc.).

Thought it wouldn't hurt to ask around before pulling the trigger on a new body...especially since my CFO (aka The Wife) isn't always impressed by how many times some of my other projects have had to go from plan A to plan B to plan C, etc. in the past.

I couldn't rightly say about parts interchangeability between the MIJ Mustangs and a vintage Fullerton instrument. The Strat stuff seems to swap fine without major issues. I do know that the Japanese Jazz Bass re-issues vary significantly in dimensions from their MIA counterparts.
