Hi Community! I'm looking for help. I've been interested in Fender Competition Mustangs for a while and would like to start collecting. I am especially interested in the original versions from 69-72.
Does anyone know:
1) How common (or rare) the original colors are (comp red, blue, orange/yellow)?
2) How common (or rare) is a matching headstock?
3) Did these numbers change over the years of issue? Namely, it seems like the matching headstock became more rare in the later (70-71-72) versions?
4) During these years, were there other colors of "usual" (not competition) mustangs issued? Or were ONLY Competition Mustangs issued during these years?
5) Any ideas (or guesses) how many Competition Mustangs were produced?
6) Any suggestions of retail (e.g. EBay) costs of the different colors of Mustangs with or without the matching headstock?
Thanks for you insights! Greatly appreciated!

This looks like the color chart in my copy of Fender's 1970 catalog.

Last I heard, the original Comp Stangs were orange, red and blue, all with stripes and matching headstock. They dropped the matching headstock later. Orange being the rarest..

I wish Fender would release more competition Mustangs in the US. The only one I can think of right now is the Kurt Cobain Mustang which IMO doesn't really look as nice as it should.

It would be great to release a few FSR Mustangs with stripes.
