Got it today

Needs a lot of set up and electronics help !!!!
Buzzing like crazy and very little output.
It was in the case in humid conditions (Virginia) for many years.

A good friend asked me to fix it so they could sell it and I just bought it outright

Its one month and two days older than me

From what little output I'm getting it sounds like some Funky Vintage tones hidden in there ! 8)

Blues...Nice guitar in great condition. You do seem to have the knack for finding nice equipment! You should get some nice funky sounds from that and the necks on those are always very nice, enjoy it.

The vintage frets are taking time to get used to.
and getting the grounding right will help a lot also !!!
This belonged to an old friend we used to attend church with years ago who sent a face book message out of the blue asking for help in repairing an old Fender.
as it turned out she wanted to sell it and so i bought it from her as is.

You can't really see in the pictures but the Nitro paint is checked like crazy, even the headstock has some.

Its one of those you hate to do any modernizing at all, the cloth wiring is all intact.
again if i can deal with the bad grounding, i believe its going to be a cool little guitar.

So 10's or 11's ???????????????
it does not like 9's for sure !

I'm setting my new DuoSonics up with 12's... I usually play with 10's but have read that these short scale Fenders just beg for big strings and don't ruin your fingers. Time will tell...

Very cool little guitar BTW... I've recently become smitten with short scales 8)

Probably would have helped had I strung it through and under.
I was wondering why there was so little angle from trem to bridge and the high E wanted to pop off so easily

I'll get some gut shots up here next week after i pick up some 11's for it.

So do all these Mustangs buzz like wild ? it would seem that all that brass in the cavities would cut most of the grounding issues.

My guess is that since both pickups are under 3K ohms that they are shot and in need of a little help.

I would like to find someone who can rewind them as to keep it as original as possible.
the one pickup has a 1966 date on it that is close to the neck date.

With all of the checking in the finish I would say this poor guitar has seen some drastic temperature fluctuations in its day, knowing it came from Virginia and was in an un air conditioned house for years, it could be that the wax is gone from the pots and indeed the back of the pickguard is covered in a waxy film.

That white Mustang is the first guitar I had, bought new in 66 in Knoxville, Tenn.
I got the guitar, case with it and a vibro champ amp with vinyl cover, for $200.
It was a great instrument, part of problem you are having with finding the right strings is it is a shorter scale, 24 3/4 inches , instead of the the normal 25 1/2 inch scale. Wish that I still had mine but I traded it in for another guitar, after playing it for 8 years. Originally designed to be a beginners guitar,it turned into a vintage guitar.
