I've had my Starcaster for about 5 months now and when I go to bend notes on frets that I frequently use to bend notes, every once and a while, I get this gritty feeling as though my unwound strings are grinding away the fret itself. When this happens, I notice metal shavings on my fretboard so I clean them off with a cloth and then see if this fixes the problem. It does for about 3 bends and then starts happening again. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Are you using unusually hard strings, like stainless steel, or pretty standard nickel/steel? I've heard staniless steel strings (which I used to use) are pretty tough on frets. Other than that, I'd be suspect of unusually soft fret wire. I think I'd check with Fender Customer Service.

I don't necessarily know what strings are on it now as they are the same strings that came with the guitar out of the box, but the extra set that came with it are nickel plated steel.
