I have a 1976 Fender Mustang that was originally metallic blue but someone sanded all the paint off for a natural wood look. It plays great.

My first Fender was a '71 Mustang. I didn't like the Competition Mustangs with the racing stripes and that's all the store had in stock. I had them order a 3-color sunburst model from the old Fullerton factory. It came in a few weeks later in the standard rectangular case with the awful orange plush inside. Also came with one of those old school two-piece leather straps and a bridge cover. The decal on the headstock said "Competition Mustang"! I couldn't believe it! I sold it a few years later for college money. It broke my heart to have to do it. That was three decades ago and I still haven't gotten over it. Tried to find one on eBay, but they've gotten pricey. Who woulda thought?!

I bought it new in '67. It was powder puff blue, but I refinished it to natural wood. Plays great & was a good buy at $199, including the hardshell case and the plastic body guard.

It has been in service continuously since I bought it. I have never had any problems with the electronics or with the instrument set-up.

My father still has his original 65' Mustang in Daphine Blue and my uncle had the Dakota Red Mustang (unfortunately long gone).

I took lessons on my dad's Mustang when I was 12. The body is in great condition with only a few dings and still very shiny.

Reviewing the going prices lately, I shutter at how I used to clean it with Pledge.

I still have the original 63' Princeton with cream knobs, though. :D
