I'm doing some homework here on the perfect jaguar. After weighing all of the pros and cons, I still can't decide which model to buy. I'm considering whether perhaps I should just build my own...?

First of all, there's not much of a used market for any of these at all, but I have a line on a very nice reissue. Not sure what year, yet, but it has block inlays(?) and not the pearl dots. I should be happy

The problem is, I totally dig a lot of the things going on with the Classic Player. Mostly, I'm truly inspired by the way they've used those wheels at the top to blend the coils of the humbuckers. There's just no denying that the fit and finish of an avri is beyond anything mim, but the circuitry and cavity are completely different.

The CIJ special is a sharp little hard tail, I'm seriously considering this alternative. I've heard it's good quality, not to mention cost effective, but no one has one in stock where I live. It just seems like so much paint! That...And it's a hard tail...Which I suppose could always be remedied.

Has anyone enlarged the cavity and rewired the circuits of an avri? Or is this blasphemy? lol  I'm fairly handy, but I would probably have it done by a competent professional. I've also considered a stacked humbucker with 4 leads, but that's just not the same, is it? Just wondering if anyone has any ideas, or suggestions? Thanks!!

Update: I'm thinking the guitar I'm looking at might be a CIJ '66 reissue, with case for $1000. Can't figure out how to post pics here. Does anyone know if that model still has the 24" scale?

Block markers and fretboard binding were hallmarks of the MIJ '66 Jaguar re-issue and represent the first full year of CBS's ownership of Fender, when these features were added to the original (the Jazzmaster and Jazz Bass were similarly upgraded at this time as well).

If a custom-configured short-scale Jag is your game, the best bet would be to build one (or have it built). That's the only practical way to include all of the features and details you want.

There are no Perfect Jaguars, not stock from Fender at least, not until Fender releases a Classic Player HH in vintage colors with a matching headstock with bullet-style truss rod adjustment, bound neck with block inlays, a chromed Mastery Bridge, and chrome strap locks, that is.

Same deal for a single-coil model, but wired like the Classic Player HH except with the rollers wired for tone/volume for neck pickup, knobs wired for bridge.

A guy can dream, can't he?

There's the Custom Shop for that.

As CS instruments are extremely expensive you must fill your pockets with enough bucks first before ordering your dreamy Jaguar.

It sounds to me like your best bet is to build or have built a Jag to your specs. I've been seeing boat loads of Jags on the internet stock and modified over the last year and a half. And it fanatic what people have done with there Jags.

Modified my 2012 MIJ HH Specials hard tail last year with an American Jag tremolo and am happy so far. I choked up on the tremolo so its closer to the bridge for a steeper angle so I won't need a buzz stop ..... ever! And I chopped the tremolo bar too.

I'm Paying off a AVRI 62 Jag and have had the mind to drop in stacked hummers and switches in it at a later date. I hope I won't need a buzz stop on this one.

Surf and Destroy !!!!!!!!!!

The CIJ 66 reissue is a 24"scale. Not to sound rude all Jaguars are 24"scale.

The MIM Classic Players whether single coil or humbuckers have great fit an finish. At least mine does. Just poly, not nitro.

Poor selection of colors as well.

To be honest, the high gloss nitro on the neck of the American Jags sucks. But that might just be me. Consider a satin neck if you are having one made, Fender CS, Warmoth, wherever...

Custom built (by anyone) also give you a choice of body/neck material and fretboard material. AAA Flame anyone?
