I don't think they were selling that well. All of us who admired them but didn't buy one are to blame

I particularly like the first version with the tortoise pickguards and the 'buckers. Quite elegant

I have a '98 model that features the dark tortoise pickguard, the sunburst finish and the chrome covered humbuckers. She's very pretty, very comfortable, and she screams. With all due respect to sales figures, numbers and the "bottom line", Fender made a huge mistake discontinuing this guitar. It is (IMHO) THE best 6-string electric guitar this side of a Strat or a Tele that Fender has ever made, period. The idea that this guitar ever went largely unnoticed is a tragic oversight. Without "counting my money in front of the poor", I just thank God I ever bought one. This was Fender's answer to the Les Paul/SG. It features the same individual volume and tone controls for both pickups. This guitar will "pull up to the light" in terms of playability or sound against any Les Paul, no problemo. It'll bury a Les Paul in the comfort department. And I say that as the proud owner (and lover of) more than one Les Paul! Food for thought: I see used Toronados on Ebay all the time. Still, I wish Fender would bring them back and push them more, as they should have done to begin with. :(

maybe if we held a kind of a web vote on them they would bring them back in to mass prodution again - honestley they sound better than an SG and i've got one and love it but not more than my korean squire strat -
how can i find out about the age of it?
