Hi all,

The trem is set up as per Fender spec to allow the trem lock to function as it should, not that I've needed it. Nut, string tree and bridge are lubed up nicely....no binding as far as I can tell.

Problem is the trem arm/system's resting place is not a precise position i.e. if I tune up, then use the trem, my strings maybe a little sharp or flat depending on where the trem comes to rest. A quick tap on the arm to 'reset' it if it's too sharp seems to sort the problem....but is there anything I can do to make the trem go back to the same position every time without messing with it after playing??

I hear that some springs are different??

Even though this model has the TOM bridge on it the bridge and even the saddles themselves move a tiny amount with the strings (the saddle screws do not hold the saddles tightly...often the cause of some rattling), could this be the cause of the trem not going back to the same resting place?

As I have the trem set up to allow the lock to work will this not take some tention out of the spring thus stopping it from pushing the trem back with more force? i.e. if the spring is compressed more (putting the lock out of action) it would have more potential force and keep the trem in a more solid position when it comes to rest??

Many thanks,

Karl.

The Jazzmaster trem should be set such that at normal tuning the lock slides back and just catches the trem plate inside so that when you try to bend the Trem-bar up to raise the pitch of your tunning, nothing happens and the guitar stays at the same pitch. Also when operating the lock back and forth the guitar stays at the same tunning. It is a fine balance of trem spring tension. If your trem is not returning correctly then it may have someting to do with the pivot point or the mechanism squeezed up against a side wall or something.

What guitar do you have so we can tell which trem you are refering to, as there are differences between US made and Import.

There's a very useful guide to setting up Jaguar/Jazzmaster tremolos here: http://www.webrocker.de/jaguar/cms/2007/05/12/setup-the-tremolo-system/

I have the Classic Player MIM version 2011 according to the stamp on the neck and scratch plate.

I'll say again that the amount that the tuning goes out is very small, but I notice it, and it's certainly no good for recording with, which is the main issue at the moment.

I'm pretty sure the mechanism isn't catching on anything, but I'll have a look at any pivot points the next string change...are there any points that may benefit from some lubrication?

I may source a replacement spring here in the UK too if I really need to.

Karl.

Aaron and Bearboy are right on the money. I have the same CP Jazzmaster and have used the page that Bearboy is showing.
When I changed the strings last September it was also time to adjust the Trem lock. This can be a bit of a challnge with new strings. I found it best to break the strings in first before trying to get any adjustments to the trem system done.
It took two or three trys, moving gently and letting things settle in a bit, but so far,so good.
Cheers,
John.E
