I recently ordered a Marr Jag and after the 40 day wait, it was not a HNGD. Out if the box, it had a chip in the finish, not a scuff or scratch, but a literal hole in the finish exposing the wood underneath. It had created cracks in the finish in the area surrounding the hole as well. I had heard a lot of people have had issues with the finish essentially just falling off.

However, the paint isn't even the worst part. I decided to plug it in anyways to at least get to enjoy the guitar for a couple moments before taking it back to the shop. The guitar wasn't even wired (I didn't open it up to see the extent, since I was taking it back) but there was no sound whatsoever. 3 cables and 2 amps later, I was headed back to the shop. Owner couldn't believe me, so he tried as well.

Are issues like this worth contacting JM about? I mean if I had a signature guitar leaving the factory with issues like this, I would want to know. I have had good luck contacting him in the past so I doubt that would be a problem.

It sounds like this one had some rough shipping - just because the box and case aren't dented it doesn't mean that it wasn't jarred enough to cause a finish crack or even knock the wiring loose just by the guitar bouncing around inside the case. I don't know if you're here in the USA or in another country - if you're outside the USA then there was a lot of shipping involved.

Also was it shipped to your home or to the dealer? If it went to the dealer they they certainly should have unboxed it and checked it out before you took it home. Even if you wanted to be the one to see it first you could have arranged to be at the dealer to unbox it and check it out.

I don't believe contacting Marr is in order - things happen when guitars bounce around in shipping. No one can really say whether it left the factory like that or if the damage occured in shipping; I've also seen reports of people getting the new American Vintage models and finding finish damage because the new finish on them is very thin and prone to chipping - the price paid for that thin nitro finish.
