Fender would be wise to invest thier time and energy into making guitar models that apeal to a larger spectrum of people. I know that the strat is a landmark, but, it could use some modifications to make it a more desirable guitar. I think that fender should use the basic strat design and create a line that has some shred friendly mods shuch as EMG's, a Floyd Trem, scalloped necks, etc. I mean, they have only one production model, not a good one mind you ($500) that has a floyd. I am skeptic about it's quality due to the $175 average price of a floyd trem.
Have you ever scene a fender with some of these awsome features that is stock? I bet not. I would believe that there are some adventurous moders out there, but there is no chance that there is a factory produced product that has those mods and is still under warenty. This guitar would be a bad boy... if it was made.

Personally I would not buy a Strat with EMG's, a scalloped neck, or a floyd rose.
I think Fender does an excellent job of building what will sell.

Fender did something like that in the late 80's with the HM Strat to compete with the "Superstrats" made by Ibanez and others and appeal to a more "modern" market.
While the HM Strat had some good features the fact of the matter is most people buy Fender for the relatively unchanged models they have always produced... they're something of a legacy.
And as timski28 pointed out FMIC has Jackson to compete in that market...

Hasn't Fender acquired a couple companies, like Jackson & Charvel, that specialize in metal & shredder guitars? Why bastardize Strats & Teles?
Although, the Jim Root Tele seems to be a step in that direction. :D

That stuff belongs to their JACKSON line of equipment. Fender already has released some Strats with Floyd Roses and Seymour Duncan pickups. Personally I think EMGs are made for metal and aren't as versatile as Seymour Duncan.

But above all else, I'm thankful that the stock equipment on Standard Fender designs are great sounding enough.

emg's only made for metal oh really you don't know much about them do you look at some of their artists.

none of them in this list are metal players. vince gill, david gilmour, bela fleck, bob dylan, bruce hall of reo speedwagon, nickleback,
charlie daniels, dylan moon, chuck geoff plays for country artist toby keith, jason krause that plays for kid rock and thats not all so search before you asume something.

I personally enjoy the classic fender feel, yet I do have more than a couple of projects developing with the help of warmoth and others, cause I cant find exactly what I am looking for ( I LOVE FENDER guitars just like they are). So, even if myself wouldnt enjoy a shredcaster, I am sure that fender would make a great one for other to love, even if Jackson and charvel already make them.
