I have a 1971 Jazzmaster with a ton of mojo. The pickups have a great tone-I use the neck pup almost exclusively for big warmth, and I do play jazz on it, esp. with the "rhythm" setting (which is essentially the neck pickup with the tone at the halfway mark in the 'down' setting). Problem is, it hums like a mofo, esp. with an OD/dist. pedal on. I have had it checked out many times, and it is not a grounding issue, but due to then being microphonic, and the age of the pickups as well as their inherent nature. I don't really want to change to a different pup, as I like the sound a lot (except for the hum, which prevents me from using the guitar for recording and certain live situations). I have no interest in noise suppression pedals (tonesuck), but wondered if re-winding the pickups was a worthwhile option, who does a good job with it, and what may be some other ways to address the issue without spoiling the integrity of the instrument?

A pickup rewind will almost certainly result in an overall change in tone regardless of who performs the work. How significant that might be can only be measured by one's own ears.

That said, I'd give Curtis Novak a holler -- he has some nice options for the Jazzmaster.
