In 1965 I bought my Jazzmaster at a music store in El Paso, Texas. It was originally a sunburst finish.

I needed a refinish in 1972 and at that time I would have sworn that the neck date was 1965.

Well, I took it apart after 40 years have passed and look what I found.

My Jazzmaster is a 1962 !! Guitar Dater Project also confirms it.

My guitar is over 50 years old !

I sorta wondered about that since the guitar does not have the CBS-era volume and tone knobs that were introduced sometime in '65.

Congrats on finally nailing down the pedigree.

I was surprised to find out it was a 1962. Seems strange that it must have hung in that guitar shop for 3 years. :D

That and the Jaguar were top of the line back then. Not everybody could afford one.

Yes, if I remember right, I paid $465.00 for it, but it was payments for 12 months at your friendly "HFC" finance company. :D

I was an A2C (two stripes) in the USAF with a wife and kid.

Hell, I remember when pay-grades below E-5 had to obtain permission from the first sergeant before they could get married!

So did the 1st Sgt make a good call?

Your guitar is just two years younger than me! Got to be honest, I think I could use refinish! Nice guitar there Jerry...cool that you kept it this long. I sold my 62 Strat many, many years ago, I was young and stupid!

Actually it was not a good call. When I got back from Korea, found out she was cheatin' on me, so I got a divorce.

However, the second time worked. Been married 45 years as of last November. I think this one is working

Sorry to hear that...but sounds like you found the right one later and congrats on the 45 years!
