I'm huge fan of the Jazzmaster. Its a great guitar with amazing tonal versatility. I especially love the features that Fender put on their Classic Player Jazzmaster. Floating tremolo moved closer to the bridge, Fender tuno-matic style bridge, and the hotter fender Jazzmaster pickups (I like the fact that they're like p90's but not as mid-rangy) It's a great guitar but It's my personal opinion that Fender should go for making an "American Standard" type Jazzmaster. When it (the Jazzmaster) was first introduced it was meant to be the next big Fender guitar. However, it didn't pan out. I think fender should give it a shot again. Improve upon the designs they already have. Think of ways they can make them better. Fender has made it a point that they listen to their fans. So my question is: What do you think about the idea of an "American Standard" Jazzmaster?

The idea for an American Standard Jazzmaster is good, but above all, it needs serious demand.

And if there were a substantial number of well-known "guitar heroes" playing a Jazzmaster, that might help stimulate the demand.

But there aren't any. And in the current business climate, FMIC is not likely to walk out on a limb in any major way for a new instrument line based on the nebulous indications from a few forum posts.

I'm thinking about getting a Classic Player Jazzmaster just because of the 9.5" neck radius. I have a '62 American Vintage Reissue, and I absolutely love the tone, but the very round 7.25" neck radius throws me off, because all my other guitars have flatter neck radii.

I actually logged on to post a thread asking folks who own or have played the Classic Player Jazzmaster what they think of it. Maybe I should start a separate thread so this one doesn't go off topic.

What's next? An American Deluxe Jazzmaster with a compound radius neck, perhaps?

If Fender makes one, I will buy it. I love the idea.

It would be nice but there would need to be a large demand for it.

I might add, that my preference for both the Jazzy and Jag CP style would be a "roller" type bridge. If you intend to use the tremolo, this would be much easier on the strings.

If Fender were to ask me for the specs for the American Standard Jazzmaster, I'd ask for:

1. 9.5" fretboard radius, like on the modern strats and tele's.
2. A medium-thickness neck, not too thin like on shredder guitars, but not 50's Les Paul thick.
3. The same neck pickup as is on my American Vintage Reissue jazzmaster. I can't imagine any pickup sounding better than that! I'm open to suggestions on the bridge pickup.
4. Delete the mellow electronic circuit and its controls, since I don't think anybody uses it. Just have pickup selector, volume and tone controls.
5. Modern tuners. I don't like the old ones with the hole in the top.
6. Vintage small frets. Sorry guys, I don't like jumbo frets, my fingers get sore. Yeah I know, call me a wimp.
7. The bridge. Ah yes, that old Jazzmaster issue. Well, the flatter 9.5" neck radius should help solve that problem. Mustang bridge? Tune-a-matic (Les Paul-style) bridge? Mastery? Or design a new one? But I'd want to keep the long string length behind the bridge; I do occasionally like to make weird noises by playing there a la Sonic Youth. It's part of the Jazzmaster culture! :)

Given my massive fan base of, like, 3 people, I'm sure Fender will pay attention! Go to it, Fender!

To have demand, you actually need the product to gauge it properly.. However there are a few lines of Jazzmaster and with the addition of the Select model it should satisfy buyers on all levels...

Except the American standard. I'm in favour for it. I'm sure they can get some models back from the dead and make a success from them- an example would be the Performer :)

I just want the '62 Jazzmaster (and Jaguar) back. It basically served as the American Standard Jazzmaster while it was available. Now, there's nothing between $800 and $2300, effectively eliminating an entire market segment. I don't want a moved-up tremolo plate, a 9.5" radius, an Adjust-O-Matic bridge, or medium jumbo frets.

Yeah, they certainly made the Jag and Jazz the top of the line guitars again (price wise.) Actually, the medium jumbo frets and 9.5 radius would be good on an American Standard model. More people like that combo. But I like the old position of the Trem. For me, the 65 would be an expense that I can't justify.

At $2,399, the 65 should be considered a Custom Shop "team built" axe.

For me, Jag or Jazz,
Original pups
9.5 radius neck satin finish (choice of rosewood or maple fretboard.)
medium jumbo frets
original bridge (forget the cover)
original Trem.
Mute is not required.
Choice of more than three colors.
