I'm about to purchase a 1969 Fender Mustang and it is in pretty good condition except for one issue. Unfortunately at some point in it's life somebody decided to put a sticker on the front. Over a period of time the nitro has yellowed due to UV light but the area underneath the sticker hasn't.

Here is what I'm talking about:

It is hard to see in the picture so here is the same picture with the mark highlighted:

If it possible to get rid of this?

I love the look of yellowed Competition Mustangs so I intend to green this one up a bit, possibly with the help of a UV light. Would it ever get to a point where the nitro stops yellowing and the other part 'catches up' or will it always be there?

Is there anything that I can do about it? Its a fantastic looking guitar otherwise...

Thanks. :)

Seriously doubt that what is done can be redone, you'll have to live with it. It still looks like a beautiful guitar.

I think it adds a unique characteristic to the guitar.

I agree--I wouldn't worry about it...
Think of it like a birthmark that gives a unique appearance

I recall someone else having the same problem. They masked off the unaffected area and placed it in direct sunlight until the issue was resolved. It was also suggested that you could do the same thing with a sunlamp.

An oval shape would be quite hard to mask completely though and I'm afraid of just having lines and patches of uneven colour.

Might try the sun lamp idea.

If I leave it as it is though is the unfaded section on the paintwork likely to fade quicker than the rest of the body, blending it in a bit? Maybe the laquer yellows quicker at first or am I just dreaming? :?
