I've just bought a CN-240 Thinline clasical guitar, which arrived yesterday. It looks a beautiful instrument. However, it simply will not hold tuning at all. It will drop at least a tone within a few minutes of starting to play. The problem seems to be the same on both the wound and plain strings.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to how I might overcome this problem?

Many thanks, Simon

Enough turn around tuning machine ?

Nut ; string's slot too narrow ? Wrong angle ?

Neck curve ok ? Need truss rod adjustment ?

See a good luthier , not anybody in musical store .

Or return on waranty.

The guitar is factory-strung. There seems to be enough turn around the machine and it is reasonable to assume that the nut and neck are OK.

The guitar doesn't of course have a truss rod, as it's a classical.

Will try to see a good luthier. It really is the only piece of rubbish that I've ever bought from Fender - a great pity as it looks wonderful.

Simon

There's probably nothing wrong with your guitar. Brand new Classical Guitar strings will stretch like crazy. They should be pre-streched when they are put on but I'll bet this was not done with your guitar. Loosen the strings, stretch them a bit and then restore them to pitch. They will stretch a bit more but eventually, they'll stop.

This guitar does have a truss rod.

I just got one. And it didn't hold tuning. Problems out of the box:

-Nut needed filing as it was catching strings so I had it replaced
-Action and intonation terrible
-Bridge was leaning - not helping the intonation - and raised by plastic shims below the pick up so I had it replaced
-The frets were not finished at the factory
-4 frets not fitted properly and bounced up needing reseating
-The tuner is unresponsive and not worth the Fishman name

Given the terrible overall finishing quality of this guitar - and given the other poor quality of the Fender purchases I have made recently - I will add that this level of quality control is probably worth the Fender name.

I now have a playable guitar but feel burned by my retailer and Fender. My fault though. Only time will tell if the aggravation was worth it.
