Something I've noticed and wondered why; Mustangs seem to be demanding a higher price than comparable year, and condition Jag Stangs on the used market. I know the Jag Stangs get a bad rap by a lot of people, but still it seems to me that the opposite should hold true. Both are about equal quality instruments, with the Jag Stangs being more rare and no longer made.

The Jag-stang, although rare, is certainly not equal in quality or design when compared to the Mustang. Even Kurt was disappointed in the JS and didn't want to play it. The JS was a work in progress that may have proved to be a good design had Kurt lived and continued to tweak it.

OK...I thought they had the same hardware, comparable pickups, main difference was the body. I'll have to look a little closer now if I decide to buy one.

The Japanese manufacturing quality is outstanding on the JS. No argument there. The design is the flaw. Go to shortscale.org and do a search on the JS. You'll get many different opinions, but I believe that you would be better served getting one of Kurt's humbuckered mustangs instead.

The JagStang is something for a collection and occasional play than a regular player. The demand is not great, so they cannot command high prices, which is good news for us Nirvana / KC buffs.

I've especially wanted a JS ever since watching the REM video "What's the Frequency Kenneth". One is wearing Porter Wagner's suit, another is playing Kurt Cobain's own reversed JS, Michael Strip wearing an anarchist tee shirt. All very cool! Though... I think the sound of the JS is actually a Rickenbacker played in the original recording.
