I did not see this subject and I not only am delighted with the price and quality of this guitar the departure from regular fender tone with the P-90's makes this a unique Fender experience. The 3/4 neck is lots of fun too. Stripped down to the basics, like a Telecaster also makes this guitar new, IMO. The neck and ease of playing is pure Fender goodness. The tone is the kind you either love or don't. This is a great grab and go guitar for open mike nights. You don't have constant anxiety about it.

Here is my baby. Sorry for poor pic. "I'm a guitar player, not a cameraman, Jim".

Yeah, I have one of the Modern Player Tele Plus guitars and its very impressive for the price. I tried out the Jag and loved the way it felt and sounded, but those looks are pretty divisive. What do you think of them?

Not sure of the question you are asking me here. I would be glad to answer when I do. :)

Not a popular guitar? One of these days people will see, maybe not, what a good guitar and buy it was. In the meantime I own one and will continue to enjoy it.

Now to let this thread die a peaceful death.

Modern player, I think, is one of the best guitars in its class because of the variety in tone, quality of the instrument itself and the playing ability. I think Fender made one step ahead of everybody else :D

I absolutely LOVE my Modern Player Jaguar (in Black Transparent). So much, that I bought another one (Red Transparent) the next day.

I originally had one last year, but returned it to Guitar Center a few days later. Nothing wrong with the guitar; I was being a Gibson snob at the time, and just couldn't accept a (Chinese) Fender into the collection. Since then, I've sold my Gibsons and have come to appreciate the value-for-the-dollar that the Modern Player Jags represent. Plus, I feel the P-90's sound better than the ones in an SG Classic that I owned.

I'm now looking forward to buying one in the 2-Color Chocolate Burst, so my collection will be complete.

Also a delighted owner. The MPs aren't going to make anyone ditch higher-end guitars, but the MP Jag with the open-grain has a really interesting sonic quality. I keep returning to the word "throaty" to try and describe it ... it's a sort of emphasis on midrange overtones and harmonies ... is yours the same?

The p-90's are the right choice for the instrument, as their microphonic qualities emphasize the resonance, but per usual the Asian pups are just not all that (notable exception: neck pup in VM JM's).

I LOVE the looks. Very '64, wood-sided station wagon, pre-Pet Sounds Beach Boys vibe.

Danhedonia,

It's interesting how you used "wood-sided station wagon" to describe it.

To me...with it's stripped-down looks and aggressive tone, I keep coming up with the image of a '68 Plymouth Road Runner.

All killer, no filler.

Very nice guitar... congrats! I played one Friday night and was impressed with the tone, quality and especially at the price it was offered... but I already have a satin-finished Strat and wanted a retro-vibey polyester surf-style colored guitar with a different pup combo than SSS to be its companion. I was also very impressed with the quality of the Modern Player Tele I tried out even though I was not in the market for a Tele at all. I would definitely recommend anyone shopping in the Squier price-range to check out the Modern Players first!

Wanting the surf polyester look got me looking at the Blacktop series as opposed to the Modern Player series...MIM and starting at $100 higher than the CIC Modern Players. I really liked a HH Blacktop Strat in sonic-blue but had come in to look at the MP Jag and was kind of sold on the idea of owning a Jag instead of a second Strat. I wound up ordering a FSR Blacktop Jaguar HH in "Blizzard Pearl" (kind of a champagne color.) Can't wait for it to get here!
