Hi guys,

Just guessing if Big F. is going to reintroduce the Fender Electric XII(perhaps MIJ) in the near future... Anyone interested? :D

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. Sadly, there's really very little demand for an electric 12-string and Fender already offers their Strat 12-string on a periodic re-issue basis. The original Fender XII used some model-specific parts (bridge, pickups, switching components) which means they'd need to re-tool for them in order to build the guitar. OTOH, the Strat 12-string requires only a different neck and bridge. Thus, anytime Fender feels that there is sufficient demand for an electric 12-string they can request that Fugi-Gen allocate a certain amount of their Strat production to re-issuing it. The original Fender XII was a great sounding guitar, unlike any before or since. But I just don't see a re-issue in the cards.

I agree. The original XII was class all the way and great sounding..But the demand for electric 12-strings just isn't there.

I don't even see one on Fender Japan's web site. Couple of nice Steel Guitars though.

Fender Japan just issued the ST-W, a doubleneck Strat with 12 string in top.

Better buy one now while you still can. When all 200 of them are sold, they'll be gone for good (or until it's re-issued ten or fifteen years from now).

Hi!
I would love to buy Electric XII, but prices on eBay are sick. There is no way to buy new Japanese Strat XII today, and ST-W is bloody awful, so it is a good moment for Fender to re-issue some kind of electric twelve. No demand? I do not think so. 300 pieces of Gibson SG 12-string released some time ago (a year maybe?) are sold out. You had to be quick to get yours.

And 299 of those were bought by speculators hoping to drive the prices for them up on the secondary market so they can reap a windfall bonanza. When's the last time you ever saw any artist or pro playing one of those SG 12's onstage?

If there were a legitimate demand for a Fender electric twelve-string that FMIC felt they could turn a substantial profit on, you'd see them step in very quickly and fill it. When you understand business you'll grasp the big picture of how corporations operate.

@arjay

The original MIJ Strat XII from the mid-1980s employed the Electric XII bridge.

Sad to say: never.

Unfortunately you may be right. You ruined my hopes...

The MIJ Stratocaster XII's still show up on Ebay from time to time and they're still pretty reasonably priced. And of course FMIC may re-issue them in the future. I do appreciate your position and sympathize with your plight. I picked my MIJ Strat XII up several years ago so our band could credibly perform many of the more popular Tom Petty tunes. It's not exactly a Ric 330/12 but it gets the job done. I just wish it weren't quite so neck-heavy......

Yes, and Squier Venus Vista XII too. It also has pickup configuration similar to Electric XII.

Why twelve string Rickenbackers are so ... reputable? Is it a matter of string configuration, or something else?

Principally, it's the DeArmond "toaster" pickups.

I can confirm: neck in SG 12 is heavy too. I am affraid every neck with 12 tuning machines becomes heavy. Is Electric XII better ballanced?
