I see
however asking the jack itself to be a good ground with that highly plated piece is a bit too much and I'll bet its the cause of much of the "buzz" in these guitars

The pots are in fact gounded to something, looks like two black wires coming from under the pickguard somewhere that are soldered to the back of the pots.

Yes, but you should not need to ground them.

The question is, is there any shielding under the pickguard.

I'll let ya know when i dig in a bit.

The jack was loose and caused some additional noises, at least that is solved !

So here is an update on my fix.

I couldn't find anything wrong in the internal wiring, so took it to Guitar Center Tech. They apparently fixed the problem. Found out that one of my amp was not grounded, changed the two prong plug into three prong plug, and the noise is completely gone! its silent like a sleeping baby.

So moral of the story, watch the video and see if there could be a grounding issue in the amp, or in the guitar.. a very very useful video!

There are two parts.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCfa-I4SfiM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZGokkrs ... ure=relmfu

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSxXra9U ... re=related

Again, as per my research on the issues (watching endless videos on youtube, and reading replies on the forum
1) check the basic grounding connection (lose or broken joints) in the guitar, don't be scared to open it up.
2) Shielding causes alot of noise reduction, though depends on guitar to guitar. Fender Jaguar does shielding in a separate procedure, but it does work.
3) Check the Amp, if its a two prong, or three prong, or if its causing any noise.
4) Rare but check if your house is grounded. Some old houses doesnt have proper ground connection.
5) Potting - I am not sure, I am not a pro! :)

A few tools from RadioShack, amazon, homedepot, and you can check the basic connections and eventually find the cause of the issue.

My Jaguar is silent on one Roland amp, and other two fender tube amps are giving little hiss sound. Have to read more to find if its something to do with tube amps.

Good Luck! If you dont find anything wrong in your connection, I guess it would be worth taking it to a tech, they don't charge much money setting the guitar up.

Ahhh, So now it comes out. The amp was "vintage" unless someone cut the ground lug off.

You do need to renumber your steps for safety reasons. Do this before you ever plug in and attempt to play.

1. If you have a two prong plug, change it out, or have it changed out for a grounded three conductor power cable. If Fender, REMOVE THE DEATH CAP!!!

2. Check house wiring, if good, plug in the amp and rock on.

Trust me, you do NOT want to get bitten by current trying to use your body as a path to ground.

There was a video of Vince Gill getting shocked by a mic at the Grand Ole Opry (which has since been removed) because the guitar amp and the sound system were not using a common ground. It's funny until it happens to you. It'll screw up your lip for the rest of the night.

Weird that, cause over the pond we have grounded plugs for everything, but the Jag still hums. I guess it's the guitar though because my others don't do it so badly, i just thought it was interference from the lights and all that.

Anyway, good to hear you got to the bottom of it.

Oh, and as for the hiss in the Fender tube amps, the tubes themselves are the most likely cause of hiss.Especially cheap Chinese tubes. Usually the preamp tubes.

Neither my Strat with CS 54 Vintage wound pickups nor my P-90 Gibson hum as much as my new Jaguar (new to me).

And I play them all through Vintage Fenders and a 57 Valco tube amp so...... ?

Far too many complaints around for it not to be a common problem with this guitar.
Again, I will install a ground from the ground side of the jack to the tone pot and see if it eliminates the buzz and hopefully does not cause a ground loop problem.

The remaining hum is probably an issue with the guitar shielding. Either pickguard shielding or a loose ground.

Let us know what you find.
