Hello... I'm curious about the late 60's early 70's fender compeition mustangs. Were they run in limited edition? And what value does a 70's model compared to a 60's model have?? Thanks in advance!

I think there were a few years in that period when the "Competition" Mustangs were a pretty standard item. And, maybe a couple years
when you had to get the stripe if you wanted the guitar. But, that was short-lived. The Mustang re-emerged as a standard model, gone for a while, then reissued. I had a red - '66 with no stripe. If I recall, the stripes came a year or two later than that, and only lasted a few years, if that.
Sorry, I don't have the exact dates nailed-down, but I do have a few books I could look it up in.

Actually, the Comps ran from about '69 to '73. The biggest difference from the older slab Mustangs aside from the racing stripe is that the bodies were contoured much like a Strat's. I don't think there is any difference in value based on the year of manufacture. The guitar stayed pretty much the same during those 5 years as far as I know. I remember seeing them new in my local guitar shop so it's funny to me today to see how the blue paint has turned green and the red has turned orange (in fact, I think they may have offered an orange one briefly).

To be honest, I didn't like the Comps so I ordered a sunburst Mustang in 1971.

from 1968 to 1970 fender mustang competitions came standard with matching headstocks, from 1970 to 1973 the had regular wood colored headstocks, around 1972 they started selling a some competition models with black pickguards and black covers, they are pretty uncommon though.
The models with matching headstocks tend to sell for more.
