Excuse me if this has been raised before but I can't find a mention of it. I need a 24" scale guitar with 3 pickups. I made one out of the Squire Strat Mini (meaning I upped it's quality), but the strings are too close together with a 1 1/2 inch at the nut measurement. I was thinking that a Mustang with extra routing for a center pickup might work. Any thoughts? I would really rather it be hard tail, but will take what I can get to get a higher caliber 3 pickup (SSS) guitar with a 24" scale.
Thanks

Not a Mustang but how about the Pawn Shop series Jaguarillo? 24" scale, HSS pickups, and a Jaguar-style trem so you could lock it down and just not put the arm on it.

If you want SSS pickups all you would need is a bridge pickup and to have someone make you a pickguard.

That Jaguarillo is nice - and with rewiring it, the bridge humbucker could be made splittable.

If that doesn't appeal to you, you can route a Mustang (Bronco, Music Master, Duo Sonic...) body for three single coils - and if you're happy with one (master) tone and one (master) volume, it won't be too complicated.

Another possibility is to order (or DIY) a conversion neck for any hardtail SSS Stratocaster.
Warmoth already has one with a 24 3/4" (Gibsonish) scale, check Warmoth conversion neck

And then, of course, a custom made or DIY Partscaster comes to mind.

Thanks for the help. I had never heard of that Jag and it looks pretty nice. Rerouting a Mustang or, and I found out this could be done, putting a 7/8ths Warmoth body with a Warmoth 24" scale Mustang/Jag neck. I am trying to make this good and usable for the cost. I have a set of Lindy Fralin pickups that I want to use in it, hence the SSS setup. I have a 24 3/4 inch scale and a mini Strat with a 23" scale (I think) but on that, the neck is too narrow. I think going to a normal width neck with the 24" scale should work and the suggestions I got, plus what I found out about the Warmoth are big helps. The short scale Rickenbacker was a thought, but it's scale is something like 21". That is really short. Thanks for the help again.

Have you looked into Fender's Cyclone II guitar......?

They're currently OOP but you may find one on the secondary market.

From what I read, it says the Cyclone has a 24.75 scale and I want 24"
Thanks for the info however.

Thurston Moore has a Mustang with three pickups, nicknamed "Astroboy".

You can order a 3-pickup Mustang from the CS.

I like that, but the cost from the CS is prohibitive. I have been told by Fender that I can route out the center pickup area completely with no problem and just rework a pick-guard or a have one made that places the pickups correctly. Warmoth also confirmed I can get a 7/8th Strat body and put a Mustang 24" scale neck on it with no ill effects. Evidently this project is very doable and not so nuts.
Thanks for the help.
